  • Plastic razors? Anyone use?

on another site.. they sell the scraperite plastic razors that claim no scratching paint... i know its just a claim and a matter of how u use it.. anyone use and have experience with these??

I live in a hot, sunny climate and some of these bird poos can be dried on pretty good.. i was just thinking that during the wash, when wet, that i can use this tool to help release them off the paint.

I use plastic razors - just not on paint.

As for bird droppings, by far the best/safest method in my experience is to take a towel, soak it in water and car wash soap and then place it on the bird bomb. Let it soak/hydrate for a couple minutes, then remove the towel.

At this step your BEST option would be to try and rinse away with a hose or pressure washer without touching the paint, but you can also spritz some quik detailer spray and GENTLY wipe it away with a lifting motion and it should come right off.

    Hope this helps.

I wouldn't recommend using the plastic razors as they will scratch auto paint. They may help on a bumper if careful like to lift a sticker but you have to be incredibly slow and steady. Best to soak the "bombing run" in APC, hot water, or even generous amount of quick detailer and let it soften on its own for a few minutes. Then come back with more of the same and a plush MF towel and try to float it off grabbing the mess up into the towel as you start to dislodge it from the surface. I usually finish up with small amount of cleaner wax to polish off the start of any etching and reapply a little protection.

I currently use these on removal of white and yellow traffic paint from wheel wells and trim. The only painted surface they get used on around here is in rare cases of extreme road tar removal. Great care must be taken to prevent marring. I keep the surface soaked with Stoners Tarmenator and tread lightly with good results.

Thx for the replies.. that's what I thought although the sales pitch is that it wont harm the paint. I was wondering if there was something maybe i didnt know about these razors? Like they're magical or something . I bought some anyway as I can see lots of good uses for them like bird poo on the glass, and like someone mentioned - rims. I'll prolly expirement on my paint, just to try.. my car is the guinea pig.

update: got the razors in yesterday and experimented on my car...I had 3 bird poo spots on my paint and 1 on my glass. I gotta say they work awesome. You can feel how they're softer than the paint and contour.. kinda like a little squeegee. My paint is pretty sensitive and i noticed absolutely no scratches. I spritzed on some wash&wax and it came right away. Bird poo was probably 2 days old-ish.
