What is and how to

A real noob question. What is claying? How do you do it?

My crv an 04( green) has swirl marks, small scratches and several dime sized white spots. What products can I use to get these gone. Bought the car end of november and I don't know what's been done to take care of it ( it's in good shape for an 04)

In reply please be specific as I am new to detailing. I don't have any indoor facilities to do work in so it'll all be outdoors weather permitting. To late to winterize if not some ideas about that also.
