  • We talk about wax application frequency but, what about interior protectant frequency

I know we should apply wax every 3 to 4 months. What about interior protectant? I normally use meguiars low gloss or ultimate protectant on my interior, depending on what type of "glossy" mood I am in. Is there a set schedule that should be followed for the interior? I am mainly concerned with uv protection and water bead up from rain on the doors. I know most meguiars interior protectants have uv protection.

More like every month or so would be best in warmer/sunnier climates.

I may dress the interior twice in the winter, but 5 or 6 times through the summer.

A very light application once a month should do it for you. And light is key with any of our products.

Once a month is about right.

For Ultimate Protectant, I find that the if applied to the doors (especially on the drivers side where your arm may rest when you drive) the protectant fades unevenly and needs to be reapplied every 2 weeks or so. Nothing you can do, just that the oils on your skin wear it down more than natural degradation. That is why I use Quik Interior Detailer on all the areas that are touched often and Ultimate Protectant on areas like the dash that aren't constantly touched.

          Once a month

Once a year should be fine (in normal climates), every 6 months at a push. Application is the key, wipe the interior down with apc drying it as you go. Leave it for a 20mins-half an hour to make sure it's all dry after then apply the product. With me I use a gel product so I massge it in with a sponge app. I allow to dry before gently wiping over with an mf to get rid of the excess.

I then dust the interior around once a week, cleaning the leather seats and glass as I go.

I also wet vac carpets and floor matts once a year.

I use Natural Shine and I'm truly surprised at how long it lasts. My "garage queen" gets a full wipedown about twice a year. My DD has light tan interior and shows everything. Other than spot cleaning a scuff or dirty spot, it goes at least two months between dressings. Vacuuming and interior window cleaning comes a lot more often.

I barely do anything to my interior. Generally just a wipe down with a damp towel every month or so. It still looks 100% brand new. I personally hate using chemical products on the trim and such on the interior.

I agree. I treat leather 3-4x per year. Otherwise, I use Quick Interior Detailer on a regular basis for dust.

Maybe 1-2 times a year I will treat SOME areas of my interior with a protectant like #40, just for fun. However, in general, I like it pretty natural. My cars are normally AT LEAST shaded and I don't drive them too much, so I think they do ok with minimum protectants on the interior. Hopefully this isn't a big mistake. I think protectants on interior plastic are primarily for sun, aren't they?

The protectants will get you the most UV protection.

And in comparison, my car is almost never shaded, so also a reason for ramping up the summer use.

It may be worth noting that 'normal' in the Midlands of the UK, and most places in the US, are going to be a good bit different as far as UV exposure.

I'm the same way too. I hate using chemicals especially the ones that make your interior pieces shiny. I've always used a damp rag to wipe down my interior. This was true until the quik interior detailer came along. I now love using this stuff! It feels like a light yet effective cleaner that doesn't add any type of shone. You should give it a shot.

I recall back in the day when I didn't know any better....i would use Armor All......and wondered why i used it as it made my interior shiney & greasy feeling.....how I hated those days.
When I bought my 99 Prelude....i just used a damp MF to wipe the interiors.....more recently, 2-3 yrs ago....I started to use Megs Interior detailer....this stuff is the best....pretty much use it every other wash(2 weeks)..... My 2005 G35 interior looks brand spankin new ( i love it whenever people say " this is the cleanest F**** interior " whenever they get into my car...lol)

I have found UP to last on the areas that i do not touch for six to 18 months. Armrest 4 to 6 months. This is with the car outside 24/7.
