Is UW considered a wax or a sealant ?

    Re: Ultimate Wax

I'm pretty sure it is considered a sealant. It IS a poly thru and thru.

      Re: Ultimate Wax

It is a fully synthetic sealant. I don't want to put words in Meguiars' mouth but from what I understand they call it a "wax" because the average consumer may be confused if they were to market it as a sealant.

I really am starting to get annoyed with Megs approach to product labeling. Everything "leaves a nice shine after".

The Deep Crystal system has steps on each bottle. I like that...wish I knew the UW was a sealant. I would have bought that....but they never call it a sealant on the labeling anywhere. Drives me CRAZY!

The rotary pads should say SOMETHING about what products to use with them and what steps to use each pad.

I understand how to use most of the stuff but it would be great if we could get some better input on the product usage.

A sealant is still considered a "wax". It's a synthetic kind of wax.

Deep Crystal is a consumer product and as such it needs to have some guidance on the bottles, whether for proper use or just to inform the general buying public what it's for. As for UW being a synthetic and not a wax - we don't specifically call it a sealant because the average consumer doesn't know what a sealant is. It is very common for people who do go out and buy a product labeled as a sealant to then call us and ask what wax they need to apply over it. The statement is almost always "I've sealed the paint, but I don't know what wax I can use over the sealer". They're usually a bit shocked to learn that sealant and wax does the same thing and you don't need to use both. But they bought into someones claims about the sealant. Yes, fully synthetic sealants like UW and others will last longer than carnauba waxes, but you don't need both. And the average shopper who's out there looking for a wax won't buy a sealant, simply because they don't know what it is. Education is everything, which is a big part of the reason why we have this forum. We can apply this scenario to other types of products, too - look at Ultimate Compound versus ScratchX 2.0. Very similar products, but to that consumer who doesn't understand the difference between a below surface defect and a whole in the ground, when they're looking for something to fix that one little isolated scratch in their paint they will gravitate toward a product that says specifically it's for fixing scratches. They don't care about oxidation, swirls, etc. so they don't know that Ultimate Compound would fix their issue just as well. And that's not marketing "hype", it's just marketing. "Hype" would be making wild claims about a product's abilities "Lasts for years; wipe it on wipe it off and the scratch is GONE!!; restores old, faded, neglected, oxidized paint to showroom new with no effort!" Those are hype statements, and we don't make those types of claims.

These pads are a pro line product and pro users already know what's what, how to use them, and what to use them with. The average guy on the street doesn't have a tool that these pads are used on, and an enthusiast who's just moving into that side of things is going to do some research and spend some time learning about the products and proper technique for using the tool.

Since we can't include multi page instructions with every product we sell, we offer our toll free Customer Care Center number (800.347.5700) where you can talk to an enthusiast who knows the products in depth, uses the products, and will talk to you about your specific questions. There isn't a script to be found in the call center, and the call center is here at our company headquarters in Irvine, CA. We also offer this forum so that anyone from total and complete noobs can ask questions without fear of flames or bashing, or hard core enthusiasts can discuss products and processes with others so that they can all improve and hone their skill set, and learn about different techniques and processes for tackling a specific job.
