  • Touch-up paint or leave alone?

I have a very small "chip" on the hood of my car. I would rather not use touch-up paint on it, because I think that will make it more noticeable. At the same time, I do not want it to rust either... What would you do? Is this deep enough to potentially rust? I know I'm probably being OCD...

    How old is the car?
Have you ever used touch up paint?

I have heard that flakes/metalics can be very challenging when touching up

I'd take a toothpick or pin and put a little paint there at least.

If you just put a thin coat or two, and not a blob, it wont be bad.

The car is only 6 months old. I have used it before, but this is so small that I'm worried no matter how thin I try to apply it it will look worse. Could that be all the way through the primer?

I have successfully touched up a chip, larger than yours more of a real chip on my rear bumper where an idiot gently hit my car at a stop light. This was a dark silver car, not my black one. I used this product Langka, to remove the excess blob afterwards. This made the chipped area look less white and match the color of the car.

However, honestly, for what you're showing I wouldn't bother touching it up.

Now, I cannot speak for your rust concerns. However, being that my cars see little wet weather and that I keep wax on them, I just wouldn't risk messing with touch up. You could get something like langka to go with factory touch up because then you could remove the blob if you screw up within a short period of time, but it gets wasteful of money in my opinion to even do this.

Sadly, I think we have to live with these front end chips from normal driving unless they got so bad we needed a repaint up there.
