  • am I using ONR correctly?

Being that it's getting colder here in bklyn I pulled out the ONR, when washing my car with ONR I use a whole 5 gallon bucket of water and when actually washing the car with the wag mitt it seems like I am just wiping water over the car then when drying the car the drying towel gets a little dirty.

That shouldn't be the case. How much ONR are you using?

It does feel a little like water but the solution should feel a bit slimy. These are the cleaning agents.

When wiping the finish to dry, the towel should not come up dirty whatsoever. If the finish is really dirty, I will spray the panel with ONR at Quick Detailer ratio and then wipe it with the wash mitt. I often wipe the panel more than once.

Re: am I using ONR correctly?

I've used ONR a couple times in the past 2 months to test it out on the new car before winter sets in. Anyways I've noticed the wash rag (microfiber towel, whatever) gets pretty dirty but the dry towel doesnt pick up too much. Though it seems to really strip my wax off- and I'm using 1oz ONR in 2ga water per the bottle. Is it me, the wax (UPW), the rags or the ONR?

i use about 4-5 caps fulls for a full bucket.

your right the wash mitt gets very dirty and even with a grit guard it doesnt come clean unless i wash it in the washing machine

The wash media is supposed to get dirty. ONR does that.

Thats one of the reasons I didnt care for ONR. The washing with water feeling & how dirty the mitt gets.

I am not putting the product down, its just not my cup of tea.

You don't need a full bucket unless you're washing something really BIG. Measure the product and mix at the recommended wash dilution for best results. Mitts and MF hold the ONR residue and grime. I've never been fond of sponges for washing but find a grout sponge is just the ticket when using ONR. It rinses clean between passes and doesn't seem to hold the residue. DO use two buckets, rinsing media in the ONR solution leaves it pretty grimey to reapply to the finish as you work.

Re: am I using ONR correctly?

                  my ONR routine is:

                  use 2 5 g buckets w/ grit guards.
fill 1 oz ONR to each gallon....i usually use 4 gallons water, the clean water bucket....well that is filled to the max.

I used to use a megs MF wash mitt, but have recently started using a very thick MF cloth ( i believe they are 660 gsm) These MF towels worked very well for me on my Impreza & G35.
I noticed that when pat drying with my megs water magnets....I noticed abolutely no dirt. But when I dumped the ONR solution after I was done......the bottom of the bucket was black!

Keep in mind that my cars are usually pretty clean & Vancouver water is pretty soft....my routine is great, & work well for me.

Btw...I usually follow up with UQD and Megs Ultimate wipe MF
