Re: Maintaining 2 Company Vans... Opinions Please?

It would probably be in your boss's best interest to go the online route if he's all about saving money. With the Detailer line, you will get more product for probably less then what you pay for with the consumer lines locally. The price may be steep initially, but in the long run that initial order will last a lot longer then what you may have gotten on the consumer side. Make this pitch with your boss, I'd also show him the difference in price and quantities between the two lines to give him an idea that you are dead serious and who knows....maybe you'll get a nice raise or Christmas bonus!

I don't have any experience with D66 and D151 but it has been praised on this and other forums.....actually I don't recall seeing any negative comments about them.

My boss is the same way when it comes to money, he's a penny pincher and is usually set in his ways. When I first started detailing the ambulances, he would call up the local 5 minute wash n wax to see if what I was doing and using was right and if I was going to screw things up........that doesn't happen anymore, now he asks me what would be the best route of things!
I usually pay for the products out of pocket and then the company will reimburse me, Since I like doing what I do, I don't give them the full price of what I use though.
For those who fought for it, freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.

I recall Joe (Superior Shine) doing a big write-up in D151 when it first came out. Not sure if it is still around.

Thank you murr for the link. I really liked what I read in there and was extremely WOWED! by the befores and afters. Heck, these vans are gonna end up looking way better than I thought they would end up looking.

I've complied a wish list hoping that a couple of you would be kind enough to just kind of double check everything, maybe give a little input also.

You can find the items I am going to buy here (I hope, haha) http://amzn.com/w/1FB7UNKS01IOM

I figure 3 polishing pads should get the job done, maybe? I've got a worn out pad here at my house that I may just use to get the big junk off?

I don't see a reason for more than 1 finishing pad, but wait, do I even need to get one of these now? Am I only going to be using D151? Is there a need for a separate polish or a final wax such as Ultimate Wax, NXT, heck even Collonite 845 may be a good choice?

I've also got the mild clay on the list, which I think was recommended by someone here. Mild is the blue clay right? My goal is to clay while washing as well.

By the way, since the D151 comes in a gallon, is there a separate bottle or something I should buy with it so that I can easily apply the product to a pad? If so, what kind of item am I looking for?

As far as all the other stuff goes, tire brushes, sponge, etc... I think we are already set with that.

Looks to be about $115.00 before shipping, being a student I am a Prime member for the discounted price so I grabbed whichever items were sold by Amazon, free 2 day shipping!

Again, thanks for your help guys. Hopefully we can get these last few questions sorted out tonight so when I go to work tomorrow I'll be ready to present this option to my boss.

You may also want to check at autodetailingsolutions.com.

Hard to say. But for the price of those 3, you could almost buy a case of 6.

I don't see a reason for more than 1 finishing pad, but wait, do I even need to get one of these now? Am I only going to be using D151? Is there a need for a separate polish or a final wax such as Ultimate Wax, NXT, heck even Collonite 845 may be a good choice?
With D151 being a cleaner/wax, you wouldnt want any polish. A wax after would be up to you.

I've also got the mild clay on the list, which I think was recommended by someone here. Mild is the blue clay right? My goal is to clay while washing as well.
Yes, blue. Just remember that the soapy water can cause the clay to break down sometimes, like if stored for a while in between use. So just go with small pieces at a time.

Re: Maintaining 2 Company Vans... Opinions Please?

Haha murr, looks like you just saved my boss some money. I can get the case of 6 polishing pads, 1 gallon of d151, clay, and dispenser bottle for $114, and it looks like I would get free shipping on that. Looks like I'll scrap the order from Amazon. Plus if my boss doesn't want to bother with a final wax, I won't need to purchase the black pads, and I am sure these 6 polishing pads will last us a while. I'll probably eat a few of them up but at least we will have some inventory of those.

Well, it looks like I am all set. Nothing else comes to my mind right now...
              Clay... check
              D151... check
              Dispenser bottle for D151... check
              6 polishing pads... check

Heh, I think that should cover it. I am about ready to have at it!

I'll talk to him about it tomorrow and comment on here with what the decision is just in case anyone cares.

Otherwise, if anyone has any other comments, please add them. Thanks guys!

Can always look at the car wash soap while ordering things in bulk.

And the MF towels sold there are decent, but may also want some terry ones for cleaning the pad as you go.

And then however you will be washing everything.

Re: Maintaining 2 Company Vans... Opinions Please?

I dont mean to be negative but I have a gallon of D151 here that I have used three times and I hate it. I thought it was a pain to apply & remove.

I would go with the M66, I have used gallons of that with great results.

Maybe order a sample of the M66?

I agree with Nick. I have a gallon of D151, used twice and found it difficult to use. I would be curious to know what you think of it once you have completed your project. Good luck with your project. Looking forward to see the results.

Ehh honestly I'll probably either just drive it thru, or go to the quarter car wash with one of the other guys and I'll use a towel and he can go around with the wand or something. I'll probably just use my MF Towels and Terry Cloths since I have got literally shelves full of them.

Tuck and gto, that's not what I wanted to hear the night before I am gonna talk to my boss lol.... I dunno I am gonna stick with the D151 and see what happens.
