  • tree sap - blemish and swirl marks

    Hello everyone,

I am a newbie and new to this forum. I need some help with regard to blemish and swirl marks on my car.

This is what happened. There was lot of tree sap on my car. Over the weekend, I read on a different website, that we can use nail polish remover to clean off the tree sap. I used the nail polish remover to the clean off the tree sap. Once that is done, it left some blemishes and swril marks on the paint. I took my car for a car wash and got the spray wax done, still I see some blemish and swirl marks when I see from a 90 degree angle.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of these marks.

    Please help....

    Cheers and Thanks in Advance

Any chance of a pic or two?

What kind of car, paint ,etc?

    Working by hand?

I will try to post the pic when I get home this evening. This is ACURA MDX, white color. Yes, working by hand. Don't have any tools and don't want to invest on tools now...:-)

Without seeing pictures, and knowing that you are working by hand, I would guess Ultimate Compound is going to be the best guess for what will work the best for you.

Ultimate Compound by hand works well as a paint cleaner, and will reduce the visibility of swirl marks, can remove water spots, and other minor surface defects. You could try something milder like ScratchX 2.0, but for a small section of paint working by hand I think UC is going to give you a nice result. You will probably have to put some elbow grease into it.

          Folks,

Sorry for my delayed response. I was able to get the pictures. Those may not be so clear, but I tried my best.

Attached are the Pictures. This is an Acura MDX, white color paint. I would want to hand work of Wax or clean.

Yeah, hard to see, but nothing terrible looking.

But I think the Ultimate Compound recommendation above is pretty good. If you havent used any kind of cleaning product before, you could UC everything. Or UC the bad spots, and then use a milder cleaner like SwirlX over everything.

            1. Wash
            2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit - If you havent clayed before, always good to do.
            3. Clean - UC as described above
            4. Wax
            5. Wax - 2 thin coats will be best.

Thank you very much for the response. I will try the options. I will try to get better pictures again.

Well, Nxt comes in liquid and paste forms... either would be fine. Or any other liquid/paste wax.

What did you apply and/or remove the nail polish with? Odds are it's the towel or other applicator that created the fine swirls. Swirls are nothing more than very fine scratches in the finish and should be pretty easy to remove with Ultimate Compound. Of course, if you use the same type of towel or other applicator that you used with the nail polish, that towel/applicator could once again create some swirls even while using UC. Your safest bet is to apply the UC with a foam wax applicator pad and wipe it off with a microfiber towel. But it's not a wipe on, wipe off product like wax is - you need to apply it with a bit of elbow grease and wipe it off before it dries. You shouldn't have to get really crazy with the elbow grease, and it's always better to ease into that aggression that just go at with everything you've got! A little common sense goes a long way.

I used cotton balls with nail polish remover to remove the tree sap( which I should not have done).I should have read on these forums before, instead I read on another stupid website. After which I took my car for a car wash, after the car wash, I asked for a spray wax, which did help partially.

Thanks again for all your suggestions. I would go today to buy the UC and other stuff. Hope that helps....

I am sure the wax just helped hide it some, could come back when the wax is removed.

Possible.. As you suggested, I will get it washed again and will try apply UC and Wax again.
