  • Whats the best way to remove dealership emblems?

I've never took one off so I was just wondering if any of you have any experience with that? It's not a vinyl sticker its a plastic emblem that sticks above the car. I'd like it removed but what is the best way to do that without causing damage to the car?

Use a heat gun on the emblem to warm up the glue behind it, then use some fishing line and wedge it between the car and them emblem and slide it back and forth in a saw like motion.

    1) Depending on the age of the car, the weather conditions it has been exposed to, and how long the dealer emblem was on - the paint might be a different shade underneath

    2) If the paint is not in good condition it is possible to damage it. You have to be very gentle and patient.

I removed mine using dental floss. There was glue residues underneath which was removed easily.
No paint fading issue, the car was new at the time.

That worked pretty good, I didn't have any fishing line so I used dental floss. Next question, how do I get rid of that residue and some of the sicky substance left on the paint... I have some goo gone will that damage the paint?

I just used my finger to rub the residues and it came off. Again, my car was new at the time.
For stubborn residues, maybe you can use a razor blade.

I ended up just using some rubbing alcohol (70%) and that worked well. I didn't feel like going to the store to buy something :p

No more free advertisement for the dealership :p

A friend of mine that lives in California said that there is a law against dealers putting them on new cars, I don't know how much truth there is to that but i think that's a great idea! Why should I deface my car and advertise for free even considering you're not getting any kind of monetary gain from it!

I did more than that. I removed the letters, CLK320. The trunk looks cleaner this way.

i just took the sticker off my new black car and i feel like if i look close enough i can see the outline still. Just curious as what kind of options do i have to try to eliminate it?? Wax, Polish,????

You'll want to use a cleaner first. Something like SwirlX would be a mild option, Ult. Compound stronger if needed.

Usually an outline is due to the surrounding paint fading/getting dirty, and needing to fix up the rest of it. Some glue residue is also possible. So a cleaner over the area should do it.
