  • Have I Turned My Towels Into Scratch Makers?

After I finished with the recent detailing session on my wife's car, I threw all the used MF towels into the washer to clean them up for next time. When I took them out I discovered one of my black foam tire swipes got in with them.

The foam somewhat disintegrated in the wash cycle, and bits got stuck into my MF towels.

I was able to get the bigger chunks out fairly easily with some quick brushing, but there are still little specks (think ground black pepper) scattered throughout the towels, and the towels seem pretty intent on holding on to them.

Do I need to worry about them potentially creating scratches? I'm not even able to feel them running a finger over them. Or am I best off replacing them? I hate to replace them, as they work really well for me and are still pretty new. But I'd rather not be imparting scratches into my work.

Or alternatively, anyone have ideas on how to get the bits cleaned out, short of a pair of tweezers?

Try washing them again. If there are less, wash again.

Tried washing them a few more times with no improvement, unfortunately.

If it's the black foam pieces instead of the plastic handle I don't think that would be a problem, foam is soft after all. I guess you can try a small test spot to see if it scratches. But you may want to try using one of those lint removers that are for clothes; I have one where the material catches stuff if rubbed one way & the other way the lint comes off. Also have seen masking tape wrapped around your hand used for clothes.
