  • Ultimate ccompound restore colour?

Does this just mean remove scratches or does it have an effect on the actual color of the paint. Is there any use on using it on trhe whole car or is it better to use on spot scratches.

Well, it wont change the actual pigments in the paint. But removing scratches, removing dirt, removing any oxidized paint, etc from the surface will let the actual pigment color stand out the best it can.

As far as using it, you would apply it where needed. If the whole car needs a strong cleaner used, then use it everywhere. If just needed on one area, then just can be used on one area.

Let's define "color restoration" and look at what's happening during that process.

In single stage paints where the color coat is the top layers of paint it is common for the upper layer(s) to become oxidized and for the color to fade. Some pigments are more prone to this, whether it be color burnout from UV exposure or actual oxidation and drying out of the paint. In either situation "color restoration" is achieved by quite literally buffing off this upper bit of paint, removing the oxidation and infusing polishing oils back into the remaining paint film, thereby restoring the color. In these cases a car that was once red but is now more pinkish in color will once again be a nice, deep and gloss red; navy blue cars that look more baby blue will return to that deep, rich blue shade again; the list goes on and on of course. Ultimate Compound does an outstanding job of removing that oxidation and dead paint, thereby restoring the color.

In a modern base coat/clear coat paint system the color coat is topped by a clear film of paint (the clear coat) that protects the color coat beneath it from UV damage, oxidation, drying out, and it gives the overall paint job its gloss. In this type of paint system the color coat alone is not designed to hold a gloss on its own - it must have that glossy clear coat over it. So with bc/cc paints the color itself is rarely compromised to any great degree, as long as the clear coat remains healthy. But gloss comes from flatness and smoothness, and clear coats can be easily scratched by things as seemingly innocent as towels. Many automatic car washes do a great job of removing dirt, but a poor job of delicately handling the paint in the process, and heavy levels of swirls, cobwebs, etc are the result. These are nothing more than very fine scratches in the clear coat but their existence means the paint is no longer as flat and as smooth as it can and should be. The sharp edges of these fine scratches also scatter reflected light, and that can make the paint look less rich and vibrant as it should. Getting rid of these fine defects smooths out the paint, eliminating those scattered reflections and letting the true color of the paint show through. In this case, Ultimate Compound has the cutting ability to remove these and other below surface defects that compromise the overall beauty of the paint.

So, yes, Ultimate Compound can restore color, but depending on the paint and the type of defects, it does it in different ways. Of course, the same can be said of any paint cleaner, in varying degrees of course.
