ok. clayed then applied nxt 2.0 techwax. clay pulled some stuff off the surface but nothing mind blowing for a car that's outside all the time. the techwax brought the color out a little but i'm still not happy especially when comparing to the metal surfaces surrounding the bumper. While I may not bring the original color back do you have any suggestions as to what else i might try?

The paint used on bumpers is no different from the paint on the metal, with the exception of an added flex agent, so the same procedures apply that you would use on a metal panel. ColorX, Swirl X, Scratch X or even Ultimate Compound will work, depending on the severity of the deterioration. Always take the least aggressive path first, stepping up as needed.

We've seen a lot of cases where the quality of the finish on the bumpers is quite a bit different than on the rest of the vehicle. The bumper covers for almost all vehicles are either supplied by a subcontractor or at least manufactured off site. Either way, they arrive at the factory already painted and are matched to the vehicle during final assembly. They are almost never painted with the rest of the body panels, which is why we so often see this variation. Sometimes the variations are in level of orange peel, sometimes it's a bit of a color mismatch, but sometimes it's a gloss level that makes the bumper cover appear dull next to the rest of body.
