  • Need your help-Newbie to this forum :)

Hi dear brothers, I am from Pakistan.
    Greetings to all of you.

I have been searching this forum for about a year now.I have learnt alot.
I would like to thank all the members here who work day and night making this forum special
from others.I really learnt alot from the Respected members like Mike *******,The Superior Shine,ShawnT, and all
    the others.

I have a few questions in my mind which I would like to ask.

1.What type of pad should I use while removing swirls?
I am using a Rotary Buffer with a wool pad which came from the company. The Rotary buffer is a Chinese copy of Makita.

2.What type of sandpapers are used to do wetsanding for the removal of orange peel and scratches?
Can we remove wetsanding marks using Rotary Buffer with Ultimate Compound?

3.What is a paint sealant? It should be applied after applying wax or before that?

    Thank you.
    Waiting for your kind response.
    Love you MOL

1.What type of pad should I use while removing swirls?
I am using a Rotary Buffer with a wool pad which came from the company. The Rotary buffer is a Chinese copy of Makita.

It would depend on paint hardness, depth of swirl marks and type/ aggressiveness of product used. You'd start with the least aggressive method first.
You could use polishing pad, foam cutting pad or wool cutting pad.

2.What type of sandpapers are used to do wetsanding for the removal of orange peel and scratches?
Can we remove wetsanding marks using Rotary Buffer with Ultimate Compound?

You would normally start with 1,200-1,500 grit and refine it with 2,500-3,000 grit for finer finish and easier compounding. You can wet-sand (by hand) or damp-sand (with dual action sander).
Ultimate Compound was not formulated to use with rotary buffers, only with D/A polishers or by hand. You may not get good results that way. It would be better to use M95, M105 or M86 (on fresh paint).

3.What is a paint sealant? It should be applied after applying wax or before that?

Paint sealants are synthetic (polymer based) waxes. They offer longer lasting protection than natural (carnauba based) waxes.
If you want to layer waxes then sealant should be your base/ first coat and wax on top (after at least 12-hour cure time).

Greg that was so nice of you.
I will order the M105 and Polishing Pads.

I have seen alot of people using only 2000 grit sandpaper and they get very good results.I wonder if i can do the same

Re: Need your help-Newbie to this forum

What kind of project are you working on and what are you trying to achieve?

Yes, you could just use 2,000 grit sandpaper to sand/ flatten orange peel. Using DA sander would leave paint surface in more uniform shape than doing it by hand.
Of course if you refine sanding with 3,000 grit paper it's gonna be easier to remove sanding marks in compounding step.

M105 Ultra Cut Compound can remove 1,200 grit sanding marks or finer. Wool cutting pad cuts faster than foam cutting pad but it tends to leave some swirl marks behind. Therefore Meguiar's introduced M205 Ultra Finishing Polish as a follow-up to M105 to refine paint surface: remove swirl marks and restore gloss.

Re: Need your help-Newbie to this forum

Sir I am trying to remove some scratches with wetsanding on my plastic bumper which was painted from a local paint shop.
I know wetsanding can be a nightmare on a factory paint. So I am not gonna do that.

Secondly, I want to ask that can we use swirlx as Meguiars Step3 Paint Care Cycle.Does it act as a polish?Or do i have to follow up M105 or M205 after using swirl x?

Sir I am trying to remove some scratches with wetsanding on my plastic bumper which was painted from a local paint shop.

Just call me Greg. We're one Car Crazy Family.
So the bumper has been repainted. It's gonna have softer paint than original factory paint. Proceed with caution while wet-sanding and check the progress after 4-5 strokes with sandpaper.

I know wetsanding can be a nightmare on a factory paint. So I am not gonna do that.

I wouldn't advise to do so.

Secondly, I want to ask that can we use swirlx as Meguiars Step3 Paint Care Cycle.Does it act as a polish?Or do i have to follow up M105 or M205 after using swirl x?

SwirlX is a cleaner/ polish but it's not formulated for rotary buffers like M205. It's more aggressive than M205 but not even close to aggressiveness of M105 Ultra Cut Compound.
SwirlX would be a replacement for M205 and you could follow M105 with SwirlX but you need to use a D/A polisher or do it by hand.

                    Your cycle would be:
                    1. sanding
                    2. compounding/ sanding mark removal
                    3. swirl removal/ polishing
                    4. wax/ protection.

Please suggest me something from the Pro line I want to give them a try.
And Can i use colorx in step3 or it should be used as step4?

Secondly I saw a review of Deep Paint Cleaner Step 1 it was said that it is non abrasive. However i have heard that all paint cleaners or cleaner waxes are abrasive.

ColorX is a mild cleaner wax (all in one product AIO cleaner/ polish/ wax), you could remove small/ light problems with it, like light swirls, fine scratches, light oxidation.
M09 Swirl Remover is a cleaner/ polish. It won't remove any serious problems either.
I wouldn't use them together as a combo.

If your car has heavy swirls a product like SwirlX or Ultimate Compound may be more suitable (for D/A application) and M205 Ultra Finishing Polish, D151 Paint Reconditioning Cream or even M105 Ultra Cut Compound (for rotary buffer treatment).

As for polishing step you could use M205 Ultra Finishing Polish (cleaner/ polish) or M07 Show Car Glaze (pure polish) as they both have rich polishing oils.

I think Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner uses chemical cleaners, not abrasives. It's super mild.
