Nu Finish: The Once a Year Car Polish.

I've seen their commercials for years and it's always on the shelf next to Meguiar's products.

What is this stuff? Is it even a polish? Or is it actually wax? Or a combination of the two?

This forum teaches the 5-step paint care system in which step 3 "polish" is distinctly different than step 4 "protect," yet this product claims to do both?

    Re: Nu Finish

It is best described as a cleaner / sealant with strong cleaners. I have not used any in years but it was a good paint cleaner. The durability of the sealant depends on your definition of durability. It never lasted that long for me.

It claims to last 52 automatic car washes.

        Re: Nu Finish

Some years ago on a second car, I waxed the roof with Nu Finish, hood with Turtle Wax paste, and trunk with Mother's. They all lasted (beaded) about the same, length of time, and if I recall correctly, a few weeks. Certainly not 52 washes as the commercial claims. The only thing remotely close to that is Megs 16.

Unfortunately in this game many words gets used in a lot of different ways. Some companies will refer to their sealant as a polish, some will call their wax a polish, and some will call polish a glaze. As far as Meguiar's is concerned, a "polish" is something that does nothing more than add gloss to very well prepared paint. It contains no abrasives at all - like M07 Show Car Glaze or Deep Crystal Polish. We also have what we group as "cleaner/polishes" like M80 Speed Glaze, M83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish, SwirlX, etc. And things like our Cleaner Wax combine all three into one product. When combining multiple steps into a single product, one or more aspect is generally sacrificed for another, depending on the design goal of the product. So Cleaner Wax has very light cleaning ability, a small amount of polishing oils, and good carnauba wax protection (it's also a very inexpensive product, so keep that in perspective as well). There are other all-in-one type products, both by Meguiar's and others. Our M66 or D151 can be considered all-in-one products, as can Klasse AIO (well, that should be obvious!) and NuFinish. What the maker of each decides to call that product, or how they choose to describe the product, is up to their interpretation of the various terms.

Bottom line about any of them, however, is whether or not they fit the bill for your current needs.
