  • I need help with black trim!!!

What can I do to definitely, positively remove old dried polish/wax. I've tried peanut butter, vegetable oil, ultimate protectent (new and old version). I've used microfiber pad, foam pad, and a toothbrush. What works?!?!?!??? Please help. ThanksJames

I personally find gold class trim detailer works better at that job than ultimate protectant, might wanna give that a try

I've not found it all that difficult to remove old wax from trim using either an APC or Meg's M39. A toothbrush is helpful but be sure to tape off the surrounding paint.

I use UQW now to dress all exterior trim and like the look, the fact that it doesn't streak or run down the side of the paint after a rain and the ability of only needing one product to do everything, glass, paint and trim.

Wax and plastic trim, when warm, expand at different rates. I found success with my wife's volvo by parking the car in the sun for a few hours. Wax expands out of pores in plastic. Then use any cleaner product. If sun is not available, try a hair dryer.

If it's a grained trim, not smooth glossy stuff, use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser dampened with water or even IPA.

My local auto supply store doesn't carry a Meguiar's Trim Detailer, so I've used Mother's Back to Black and found it works really good for removing the wax, especially on plastic.
