i just started my detailing business last week. and today i got a offer to do 25 big rig trucks at $900 each. its alot of money but alot of work all the company wants me to do is restore shine. because all the paint on all the red trucks is oxidized. so im thinking of just using 105 or uc has anyone on here done a big rig. and how long dose it take. how much work is it ? should i take the deal or not ?

Re: Big Rig Truck Detail To Do Or Not To Do ?
Wow, that's a great payday. I have no experience what so ever with something like this. I'd be in panic mode. Who washes them, do they need to be clayed, just polish no wax? What about the chrome? Tires and wheels? Glass cleaning? Written contract? Insurance required? You go to them? Water, electricity provided at the site? Any payment in advance? Paid after all complete or as each completed? Are you familiar with working off a ladder, scaffolding or cherry picker? You gonna hire help? What are Canada's employment laws or worker compensation?
How many days/weeks will it take you? Rain days, can you work inside? One a week is 25 weeks or two a week is 13 weeks, have you got that much time?
When you are successful with this, you will definitely establish yourself!!!
Good luck.

Re: Big Rig Truck Detail To Do Or Not To Do ?
All I'll need to do is get rid of oxidation. And bring back the gloss so I'm just gonna be using 105. And my g110 doing the truck not the trailer. But I'm not sure if I should take the job until I get responses from people who've done this kind of thing. 900 each truck cash money is great but thinking of the work is driving me crazy. I have 1 guy to help me but I dont know if I should attempt this.

Is M105 really the best choice? Or something more intended for high volume work? Don't know, just asking.
Could you be allowed to do one before committing to all 25?

I would pesonally use M66 on this detail to remove the oxidation. Has quite a bit of bite along with chemical cleaners to remove oxidation. It will also leave some protection and restore shine. Even better.................it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy cheaper than M105Just be sure to use M66 heavy while working with it for this job.

M66 Cleaner/Wax, its in the Mirror Glaze line offered in a gallon.
Dave made some great points above,
I think this might be harder than you think though, you need to have the knowledge and skill level just to bring decent results to the paint, plus you need to plan out the logistics.Nick

Re: Big Rig Truck Detail To Do Or Not To Do ?
I tried doing a test spot one of them. all they have is oxidation all the company wants is a little bit of shine. so after doing the test spot i found its single stage paint one pass of 105 clears up everything. so i would be able to do the whole truck in less time then i thought. im going to try doing the rest of the truck on monday. if i can get it done in a day then its 750 a truck. 25 trucks so 25 days to 17 k good deal but it will stain my pads. what do you guys think should i do it i will get more business after doing the 25. alot more due to other truckers seeing them.

I am not sure if I would be using M105 as a one step, I would think it would at the least need a follow up polish or cleaner/wax after using a compound.
As for the money, have you accounted for product costs, helpers, insurance, etc. Obviously these will decrease you profit.
I am also suprised your getting nearly $900 for one stepping the cabs, seems like a lot.Nick
