I need to remove some very small swirls and plan to use UP. Will the UW be removed during the process or has it bonded to the paint?

Yes UP will remove UW.

Well technically if you want to remove swirls your suppose to restart from scratch
Prep the paint and so on but yes i am pretty sure it will remove the wax

100% positive it will remove the UW. UP is partly a cleaner - which is why it can reduce or eliminate some swirls. IF you havent read the article regarding what it actually means to remove swirls and scratches I suggest you do so. Essentially, remvoing a swirl means you are leveling out the clear coat around the swirl (ie. removing some clear coat).

It is impossible to remove the clear coat and keep the wax that was bonded to the clear coat - just doesn't make any sense.

Thanks. I feel like a dummy asking the question. I knew it leveled out clearcoat. I guess it was too early this morning when I thought of the question.
