I would gladly pay that guy 150 to build it for me and send it to me! Looks easy, but I'm sure there are a few small things he left out.

I service electric lift trucks for a living. We use DI water in the batteries. You can buy a wall mountable DI filter with hose connections on both ends for about $150. They are roughly 6 inches in diameter and 24 inches tall and will treat a few thousand gallons before wearing out. Not sure if this is really cost effective for rinsing cars but no fabrication needed. Philadelphia Scientific is one manufacturer.

If I had bad water, I'd consider but CT city water workin fine so far. I hear AZ water is pretty bad with the hardness....

Where I live we have a hardness of 8. I do not exactly know how high the scale goes but i know it made a huge difference when we install our water softner. From what I understand the softener isn't the same as the DI.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Ha! Gotcha! Too many projects at the moment, but I am going to do something, at some point.

Looks like a nice, simple system. Prices I'm seeing are $265 for the unit; $95 for the replacement filter (YIKES). For $150, I'd buy one!

                  Yeah, sorry, I mis-typed, I meant $250. My bad...
