  • Diluting regular QD for claying??

    Hi guys,

Tommorow I am planning to detail my parents car, which is an 04 model in white. I dont have much time, or any of my detailing supplies, so I have decided to wash with NXT, dry, clay and then finish with color x. I have all of these handy, and a few hand applicator pads and supreme shine MF's.

However, the bottle of QD with the clay kit is getting pretty low, probably just enough to do the car but what would happen if i was to dilute the QD with a bit of water at the start of the process, just to make sure I get the whole job done?? If i could only do the horizontal panels would the color x be strong enough to take care of the contaminants on the rest of the car?? Thanks guys

Clay bars take care of bonded contaminants seating on top of car paint while paint cleaners address below surface problems. So your clay and ColorX (cleaner wax) will work on different issues.

You could dilute QD, if running low, and it should still offer enough lubricity for your clay bar. Just don't make it too watery.

You could clay with the car wet... helps things go further, and acts like diluting I suppose. So a little extra water in the QD might be ok, even if not preferred.

Could also use some soapy water.

And no, the ColorX wont do the same thing the clay will. You pad will actually just bounce on over bonded on stuff.

Thanks guys!! I think I might try claying while the car is still wet and see how that goes, or postpone to another time when I have everything available to me..
