  • Autogylm HD Wax VS Meguiars 21

I currently use megs 21 to wax my car and my clients cars as I just started in the detailing business last week but I was at the store today and saw they had autoglym hd wax I heard autoglym is a top of the line company so I'm thinking of buying it but is it better than 21 has anyone used both autoglym hd wax and 21

Not sure how it works, it may work well, some may chime in.
I only use meguiar's, have so for years.
My question for you is, what do you want from a wax?
    Protection?, shine?, lasting?
Ultimate Wax is the best IMO but hey, that's what works for me.
May work for me, on the other hand might not work for you.
    It's you're choice of course.

I only use meguiars as well but I heard autoglym is a high end brand so I'm thinking of trying it as for your question I want all 3 but a high gloss shine is a plus

Should be good, as far as i know its a carnauba wax so it may likely give a deeper shine than M21 (as with other carnauba wax and sealants). If you want to try it, go ahead, its nice to try out different waxes outside megs. I currntly have the collinites (845 and 476s). I use whatever wax i feel i'm in the mood to use. Its nice to be able to try different combinations, or compare which one is more durable. You may discover why high end waxes are priced high, or if you're unlucky, you may discover that the prices don't usually reflect the shine/durability vs. lower priced ones.

What wax your clients use shouldn't be too much of a concern, Megs is high quality anyway plus your business isn't just a simple car wash then wax type of thing. YOu also correct paint imperfections, remove swirls, restore gloss, the works. The kind or price of wax used is only a small part of the entire detailing process. HOwever, it may allow you to give more options to your clients as to which type of look they want.

If cost is not that much of a concern, i see no reason why you shouldn't try HD out.

I personally have experience with just the AGHD, and I absolutley love it. It foes on super smooth and comes off super smooth.

TO Dixie: Is it a wipe on, wipe off product or let dry to a haze then buff off product?

To sunny: If you try and like the shine of autpglym HD if you get one, another option is to use the HD as your wax on top of the m21 exclusively for yourself. Its nice to have something "extra" for yourself.

I think I'm going to try it another thing is it's a paste wax I haven't used a paste wax before is there anyway to apply them with a d/a or is it by hand only Ive seen people using small pads but I only have 6 and 7 inch pads

Sunny, for your regular detailing customers, stick with M21. It's all about money, energy, and time expended. You are getting more bang for your buck with M21. M21 will be more economical per application, and 9 out of 10 customers will not be able to see a difference between M21 and AGHD. M21 will also prove to be more durable than AGHD in most cases. Also, if you search out various detailing forums, you will find that more than a few people mention that AGHD can be a bit more finicky than other paste waxes in terms of application and removal. AGHD has an enthusiastic following (but so does Fuzion, P21S 100%, Souveran, 50/50, and Victoria Concours Red), but you are just starting out as a professional detailer. Count your pennies and make every cent count. Perhaps later on you may want to consider buying a more expensive paste wax that you can upsell to your more affluent customers, but are you really at this point in your business?

                Anyway, that's my two cents.

Not sure why someone would think AG HD is "high end" and Meguiar's waxes are not? Is it based on price? If so, I bought some AG HD at Walmart a few weeks ago on clearance for $10.

Until AutoGlym got some of their products into Walmart, High Definition was retailing online for $50+. Then about a year ago HD started to appear on Walmart shelves for $35 or so. WalMart then discontinued the line, which is why folks have been picking up tubs for $10 or $20. If you have the opportunity to grab a tub of High Definition at these bargain prices, grab it!

You can apply any paste wax with a D/A buffer. Just use a spatula to spread the wax on the pad. It works beautifully.

Yup, and the $50 price tag didn't make it any more high end or better than the $18 Ultimate Wax or #21.

$50? its quite a lot... For that amount of money you can get maybe 3 bottles of NXT2.0

I love them both (meguiars and autoglym). But right now I am using the AutoGlym and absolutley love it. You apply it like any wax; put it on, let it haze up for 15-20 minutes and buff off.
