  • What do I do in between waxing?

    Hi all:
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. Brand new car. Washed it with Ultimate Wash & Wax, then ultimate polish and then NXT 2.0 wax. Great products. She sparkled but not as deeply as I thought. I used quick detailer once or twice and now I washed her again. What do I do if I don't have the super deep shine I was expecting (Candy Red car)?

Do I wait for the NXT 2.0 to wear off before polishing again and applying 2.0 again? I think the first time around I wiped off the 2.0 before letting it set. Don't get me wrong the car shines nicely but not as rich as I thought it would.

Is there any Meguiar products that I should be using in between washes, other than quick detailer or quick wax?

    Your advice is appreciated.

I will give you my 2 cents worth although I am not a PRO like many people here.I will tell you what I did so you can go from there.
I purchased GV120v2 and few Lake pads,, Yellow, orange, green, blue and black. My car is 2007 Cadillac DTS black with 21000 miles. Had few small scratches and a lot of swirls and just did not shine as it should have. I tried using "Ultimate Compound" and "Ultimate Polish" followed up with Gold Class paste wax.Looked much better but still was not there.
I switched to Microfiber Correction System which is only 2 step process. When I was done I topped it of with Gold class paste wax and it looks like Million Bucks. I would bet to say it looks better then any new caddy in the show room. Not bragging just facts.
I swear by this product and as far as I am concerned it is great for beginner or Pro.
OK Pro's correct me if I went wrong somewhere.

      Well, few different questions here...

It doesnt sound like you clayed, that could help.

And you will want to check for swirls, other surface imperfections. As mentioned, if they are there, you may need to apply different products/techniques to remove them, and get all the shine.

Do I wait for the NXT 2.0 to wear off before polishing again and applying 2.0 again? I think the first time around I wiped off the 2.0 before letting it set. Don't get me wrong the car shines nicely but not as rich as I thought it would.
If the Nxt 2.0 didnt look great, adding mire probably wont change things.

Could try a different wax of course.

As far as working on it, you cna do so whenever you feel like it again.

Is there any Meguiar products that I should be using in between washes, other than quick detailer or quick wax?
UQW is really the best product after a wash, in between details at the moment.

Re: What do I do in between waxing?

Thanks for the advice guys. No compound or clay needed (bought clay but haven't used it). The car is less than 2 months old and garaged. So it shines. Just not like of the glass reflections u see when other people post using the same or similar products.

Compound is out of the question. I guess the QW is probably the answer. I did notice swirl marks on my headlight lens. I wish they would of kept these glass. The plastics Ford uses are so soft, including the interior dashboard plastics. Any suggestions for that? What brand works best. People on the mustang forums have stated that Meg's plastics doesn't prevent it from scratching. Any other brands out there?

Thanx again for all the advice

If you want the SHINE then you must use polish to polish the paint then seal it with your wax.Wax by itself will not give you the shine. It is meant for protection of the paint.

How did you apply Ultimate Polish? By hand?
If you used ultimate polish by hand you would be working on it for a wk.

Best way I can explain to you if you look at your reflection in the paint it should be CRYSTAL clear and not distorted and the only way I know how to accomplish that is by polishing the clear coat.
Maybe some professionals can explain better.

Run you finger across the pain,,does it feel real smooth? if yes then no need to Clay. Best way to use Ultimate Polish is with GV120V2 and Green or blue pad. How did you apply your Ultimate polish?

With a wet foam applicator pad, waited five minutes and then buffed it off with a MF towel making sure to keep turning the towel to a dry section of the MF towel.

Ok now I have to ask what a gv120v2 is. I searched on meguiars and google but only thing I found is this thread. I am assuming its a electric polisher

Ultimate polish has nano abrasives in it. It is not meant to be applied as wax. You need more aggressive pad like green and work on one spot for a while as if you were sanding. This process will POLISH clear coat for you. After that apply your wax http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45702
