Re: Uc vs m105
Sunny, I'm pretty sure M105 is DA compatible, if you have the bottle that states so. From what I understand, UC is derived from M105. 105 may have slightly more cut but UC is a great product. Also, UC is easier to work with and has a longer buffing cycle.
Nothing wrong with picking up M105, but before you spend more money, maybe try a different pad, etc. What kind and size pad are you using? How's your buffing technique? Your problem may able to be solved without having to go out and buy a new product.

Re: Uc vs m105
SunnyD, before you purchase M105. Answer a couple of questions.
- When you are using Ultimate Compound, are you using a yellow Meguiar's pad?
- Do you have your buffer set on speed 5?
- Are you pressing down on the buffer with enough force to nearly stop the pad from rotating?
- Are you moving the buffer slowly, are the concentric circles about 1/8" apart from one another?
- Are you working in a small test spot, say at the most 2' X 2'?
- Are you going right-left-up-down overlapping by half the diameter of the pad and working the UC until it's nearly dry?
- Are you wiping off with a high quality microfiber cloth?
- What is the condition of the paint before start and how is it different when you are done?
Okay, let's review and forgive me if you already know all of this.
Meg's yellow pad is more aggressive than black.
Speed 5 is about a fast as you can go. 6 can generate too much heat on the surface and within the pad's hook and loop interface.
To be most effective, stop the pad's rotation with pressure for a second or two and then ease up a bit. This is the most aggressive moment of pad rotation, but make sure it rotates.
Move slowly. Slower is more aggressive. This is not a race, slow is good.
Work is a small area, focus your efforts. In a TEST SPOT.
Overlap your passes and repeat until the UC is about dry, wipe off and repeat. Too much product can reduce effectiveness too. You shouldn't need to apply a big "X" each time.
Cheap microfibers can marr the surface, be careful when you wipe off.
Ultimate Compound can cause micro-marring and require a lesser aggressive product be used to remove that micro-marring. Something like SwirlX.
Are the defects so deep you can feel them when you run your fingernail over them? If so, you may not be able to fix them.
It's also possible you have delicate paint. Read this:

In some aspects, black is difficult to keep clean and looking good. However, it is often the easiest to correct because it is sometimes easier to see the defects and correct them.
Finally, can you and would you please post some pictures so we can be of greater assistance to you. Thanks.

Re: Uc vs m105
M105 was made in two formulations. The first was rotary only, the second and one in use now, is DA or rotary. I believe that most who have used both M105's thought the first had slightly more cut, but I *think* it had a shorter working time.
I also believe the M105 has slightly more cut than UC.----------------------------------
