If you use UC too much then the worst that could happen is clear coat failure. That won't happen until you remove so much clear coat though and this might take a lot of applications before it happens.

I definitely don't want to remove my clear coat. haha So i'll just do one coat of it with some passionate elbow grease, since it is clear coat safe.

      Thanks Marc!! ^_^

There is a difference between "using too much" and using it "too aggressively".

Generally when we think of "using too much" it's a situation where a person overloads their applicator with the product to start with, or when DA buffing they just continually add product until the pad becomes saturated over time. In this case you may find the product drying heavily on the paint, making it difficult to wipe off, or it may actually reduce the cutting ability of the product.

Using it "too aggressively" has nothing to do with the actual quantity of product you've put on your applicator. Even when applying the correct amount of product to an applicator you can run into trouble if you just start scrubbing away in one little spot. Regardless of product used, we've seen too many people literally rub through their clear coat in a small spot because they were trying to remove something deeper than what can be safely removed. Remember, if you can catch your fingernail in a scratch, it's probably too deep to safely remove it - removal of a scratch, regardless of depth, means removal of at least some surrounding clear coat. There's just no way around it - a scratch is missing material, and how you remove what isn't there?

Thanks Mike very good explanation of the differences. I guess What i was asking was using it too aggressivley. Khehehe to Jim.

My hood is a Night and day difference. It has clearcoat failure, dull and matt looking and really rough. I even took away a 1.5" long and deep crack. I washed/clayed/UC/ULW

So Halfway it was getting dark and pulled out the cheap autozone orbital and UC/ULW the remaining half of my hood. Well by doing this I noticed that the part I did with my hand is smooth super mirror shiny! The other half I did with the orbital is smooth and less shiny(still shiny just not mirror shiny) than the part I did by hand. I sure this is because the orbital just isnt as good as with my hand. Maybe good for polishing/buffing, but not to apply the UC.

Would it be okay to just do the other half of the hood asap or should I wait a certain amount of time, like wait for the wax to cure. Or just wait to UC it again when its time for a rewax in about 2 months?

I guess im afraid of overdoing it cuz I just did the whole process and dont want to mess up the paint or anything.

My hood does have clear coat failure, but the part that doesn't is totally shining and smooth. It's just that the side I did by hand is wayyy more shinier than the side that the orbital did. It was soooo Dullll and MATT looking before.

Thanks Guys!! ^_^ have a Great DAY!

Re: What's the Worst that can happen by using too much Ultimate Compound?

If you applied wax after you applied UC, you might as well wait until you re-wax your car again because UC has to be applied directly to the clear coat, not on top of wax. Your really suppose to wash your car and then clay bar it so there's no contaminants still on the surface of your paint, making it easier to level scratches. And yea, using just a regular orbital buffer isn't gonna do the job, trust me, I've tried. I eventually got myself the Meguairs Dual Action Polisher and it's exactly what I needed and makes the job 10 times easier. Just stick to doing it by hand, you'll have much better of a turn-out. Add a little bit of product to your pad your using, work in small areas at a time, like 2ft x 2ft, if even that big. Work the product into the paint making numerous passes up and down and left and right and before the product even begins to haze up and dry, buff it off with a microfiber towel fast before it dries, it is hard to remove once it's dry. The key is to working in small sections in my own opinion! Do your whole car and I bet it turns out great. Might take you a day or two to do it but it'll be worth it! Add polish and wax after you've completed using UC
