    Issues with new-to-me Expedition Finish

    Issues with new-to-me 2001 EB Expedition:
    1) Light rust in the "hole" areas of all the rims.
    2) Etched Spots on hood (looks like from bird droppings)
    3) I used Dupont Rubbing Compound No. 7 firmly to remove fairly heavy oxidation on hood. Now have lots of circular scratches/swirls instead of oxidation. 2 heavy attempts with Meguiars Body Scrub did very little to remove the scratches at all.
    4) The rear and most the passenger side was repaired/repainted by Ford (after accident) 2 years ago and looks great. The hood, passengers side front quarter panel, and entire drivers side is 10 year old paint.
    The 10 year old paint on the sides looks "patchy" or "splotchy". It may just be uneven fading - can this be fixed?
    *On the 10 year old side in the picture I have already:
    A) Washed the car twice with Meguiars Gold Class Wash.
    B) Clay bar twice with Meguiars Quik Clay.
    C) Lightly - used Rubbing Compound No.07, then Turtle Wax Color Back, then Rubbing Compound No. 7 again, then Turtle Wax Color Back again.
    It cleaned up many issues and is shiny, but still splotchy???

    What do I need to get and do to correct these 4 issues???
    I am not ready to invest $200 in a DA Polisher and Pads yet (but if anyone has or knows of an inexpensive/used Griots, Meguiars, or Porter Cable - please let me know!).
    So, I would like to get the best results for these issues by hand.
    I am semi-retired, so i do have lots of time to work on it.

    1) Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash
    2) Meguiars Quik Clay Detailing System
    3) Clear Coat Body Scrub Paint Cleaner
    4) Meguiars Sow Car Glaze #7
    5) Meguiars NXT Tech Wax 2.0
    4) Meguiars Quik Mist & Wipe Detailer

    (Older) Non-Meguairs:
    1) DuPont Heavy Duty Rubbing Compound No. 7
    2) Turtle Wax One Step COLOR BACK Finish Restorer & Car Polish
    3) Turtle Wax Finish 2001 Car Polish
    4) Turtle Wax "Super Hard Shell" Wax

    I would go over it with Ultimate Compound followed by Ultimate polish and then a coat of the NXT. I love the #7 but I think the Ultimate Polish will do better after the compound this first time.

    A chrome cleaner polish should take the rust off that will come off.

    I hope you are in good shape. I have a 98 Expedition and cleaning, polishing and waxing it can take me all weekend with a DA. After you get it polished you will want to keep it maintained regularly as it makes the job much easier.

      I am in pretty good shape, but I just figure I'm doing it to not only improve the appearance of the vehicle but literally as a workout.

      As I have been reading here, I have been leaning toward picking up some Ultimate Compound to remove all the swirls and scratches I created by removing the heavier oxidation with rubbing compound. It seems to be the best thing for the job I need to do by hand, but I thought the Meguiar's Body Scrub would be abrasive/strong enough to remove the scratches.

      The Body Scrub is an older product, so I am having trouble finding a Body Scrub Vs. Ultimate Compound thread or comparison.
      Is the Ultimate Compound that much stronger/better than the Body Scrub in removing swirls/scratches?
      What about the splotchy - will UC even out an unevenly faded paint finish or is there even something to do that?

        One Issue Down.
        I got the rust off the inner parts of the wheels, plus I got all the extra water spots and minor issues off the rest of the wheel.

        I am trying to use up what I have, so I used the TW 2001 Polish to get the rust off and then I followed with the Meguairs Glaze #7 on the entire wheel to clean/shine/buff any minor extra issues.
        These wheels are 10 years old and shined up better than I expected. They look significantly better than after the 2 washings and drying with a microfiber towel.

          Thanks again for the Ultimate Compound suggestion. I had read a bunch online about UC, but it helped put me over the edge to go pick some up.
          By hand, the UC did not get rid of all the scratches, but it did a MUCH better job than the Meg Body Scrub that I tried first. I would say nearly 70% of the scratches are gone (all but the deeper ones) and the paint is slightly deeper looking as well. I finished it up with Showcar Glaze #7 (since I already had some) and NXT 2.0 which will be good enough for now until I get a DA Polisher. Using a DA with the UC, I think the rest would probably come out.

            That wheel cleaned up nicely. You do know you have one odd tire on the left front don't you? Does that make it drive funny? Mine is real touchy about the tire pressure. If they get a little low you can feel it right away.

              Thanks, I was surprised how nice the wheels came out.
              I got this Expedition about a week ago. The odd tire is the same size (275 60 17) as the other 3 tires. The previous owner ran over something a few weeks before selling the vehicle that a patch could not repair. The replacement tire was the spare.

              Also, I recently found an unsold new Dee Zee Molded Burlwood-look Dash/Door Trim Kit on ebay. I contacted the seller and got it for $55 shipped. It should look really nice with the tan interior.
