  • choosing an interior protectant

I'm trying to decide first if I want to use a protectant and secondly which one I would want to use.

In the past when armor all was the go to protectant, many rumors were that it caused more damage to the dash than if you were not to use it at all and that once used, it had to be used from then on to keep dash from drying out. In addition, it always seemed to attract dust more than when not using it.

So my question is have the protectants changed? I dont want to hard the interior of my new tacoma with protectant. Is it more beneficial to use than not to use?

Finally, which protectant would you choose? I already use the meguiars cleaning cloths but no protectant. I do not want gloss, I either want flat or no protectant look at all.

Plastics/vinyls were not as durable either in the past, so were more likely to fail.

The Quick Interior Detailer is good for dusting, and will leave a little UV protection, with pretty much no look.

The Natural Shine would be the protectant with the least look. But it will offer more UV protection and moisturizing than the QID.

I myself prefer just using QID.

funny thing, i just found a big bottle of armorall that my uncle handed to me today as i was vaccuming and detailing my interior. It said HIGH GLOSS...so i'm pretty sure i don't want to use it on my dash....

might spring for some of the meguiar's though

I was never really a fan of dressing the dash/interior until I tried the Megs Natural Shine. When first applied it was slightly shiny but by the next day it had left the dash with just a clean natural glow. I sprayed it on to a round terry applicator, only a small amount, then rubbed it into the dash till there was no more liquid moving around. I used as little protectant as I could.

Great for wiping down mountain bikes, though. Not only does it clean the dirt nicely and leave a great sheen but the slippery film it leaves behind makes future cleanings easier!

Oooh, that sounds like a good use for the armorall I have left over after switching to Meguiar's Natural Shine.

                Re: choosing an interior protectant

After cleaning the surface I recently picked up a bottle of Ultimate Protectant. Works very well. A nice deep, wet shine. Gives life back into interior panels.

Word of the wise, this stuff will induce glare on the windshield so use with caution. Made the mistake on my Trans Am and I think I will have to do a APC+ wipe down on the dash pad to cut the shine. Looks sick on everything else.

could not have said it better my self!

Natural Shine will make your vehicles interior look like it did the day your car rolled off the factory line.

IMO Natural Shine is the best option.

I actually like the gold class dash and trim foam. Its easy to use, with no messy overspray, and it leaves a glossy finish without being over the top.

Where can you buy that? I thought it was discontinued?

I am in Australia, we seem to get all of the outdated and discontinued stock. I wasnt aware that it had been discontinued in the US, i hope not because i just love how accurate and precise it is compared to a spray.

It may be available in other countries still... different rules, etc. Or gone completly.
