  • Waxing and Polishing Black Glossy Rims

I just bought a used set of Motegi SX5 Rims (link below), they're in ok condition. I wanted to polish and wax them before installing them. Can I treat the finish of the rims the same as if I was applying wax and polish to my cars finish?
Any suggestions what I can use for the outer edge of the rim, it's got a Machined Lip finish?

Yes, the black part is painted, so treat it just like you would your car's paint. I would start with something mild like SwirlX first.

As for the lip - try polishing that with SwirlX or another paint cleaner first. If you get a black residue on your pad / towel, it means it's uncoated metal and you can use a metal polish on it. If there is no black residue, it means it's clear coated, so continue with the SwirlX or equivalent.

Don't forget to wax as your last step!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Thanks, your answer was really appreciated.

As for using SwirlX unfortunately the liquid in my bottle has become very thick/like a blob, when I shake it there's no sound of the liquid being mixed, I don't think I can use it anymore.
But I have other products like:
      Ultimate Compound
      Step1 Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner
      ColorX
      Step2 Deep Crystal Polish
      Gold Class Wax
      NXT2.0
What would you suggest I use to start and to finish with? I was thinking of starting with either:
      1. Step1 Paint Cleaner or ColorX
      2. Step2 Polish
      3. 2 coats of Gold Class
      4. 2 coats of NXT 2.0
Or should I use NXT first and then Gold Class as my final coat.

What is the condition of the rims? Are they full of swirls/scratches/imperfections?

If not, I would keep it simple and just use ColorX, followed by NXT 2.0 and be done with it...

I'd give them 7.5/10, they're not that bad. They mainly have scratches but you've got to look closely at them to see them.
I think I'll take your suggestion and just use some ColorX or DC Polish followed by a coat or two of Gold Class and NXT.

Good plan of attack. Let us know how they turn out!
