  • Applying polish after Ultimate Compound?

After I wheel a car with Ultimate Compound, is it necessary to follow up with a light cut finishing polish or pure polish? Will the paint even accept any polish after using Ultimate Compound?

The difference may be minimal but there will still be a difference especially on a darker colored car. Fine polishes such as Ultimate polish are rich in polishing oils that help rejuvenate the paint's finish. Also, there are some clear coats that are too soft and using a heavy compound such as Ultimate Compound causes the finish to haze up. Following this up with a finer polish like Ultimate Polish should remove the hazing. It really depends on the situation and your goals.

I wasn't sure the paint would even accept polish after using Ultimate Compound. I'll be doing a black car with clear coat and I was planning on washing, claying, Ultimate Compound, Deep Crystal Polish, and two coats of Pinnacle Souveran.

What do you mean accept? It should work and have an effect.

There is no hard and fast rule for applying a polish after compounding. If you are satisfied with the results, you're done. If Ultimate Compound corrected your paint but the finish looks a little hazy, a fast and easy application of polish will clean it up and give you nice depth and clarity.

After Ultimate Compound you shoud use Ultimate polish which will bring back your color and then you must follow up with some sort of wax to protect the paint. Polish only polishes the paint.
            Just my 2 cents worth

I wasn't sure if Ultimate Compound had any polish in it. I didn't want to waste time polishing on polish.

I thought you were heading that way. Ultimate polish removes all waxes (toppings) from the paint. Now you have a nice shiny PAINT and to protect it you must wax it.
