  • Question about Ultimate Polish

    Hello,

I am new to the forum and to detailing.

Today I tried for the first time applying the Ultimate Polish using a DA.

I washed the car and used a clay bar after, the painting was really smooth to the touch.

THe problem I am having is that after applying the Ultimate Polish, it's really hard to remove w/ the microfiber towel. Some parts wouldn't go away.

    Am I doing something wrong?

The only unsual thing is that the car surface was "warm" to the touch. Not HOT, but warm. I am not sure if this would have this much influence on the removal of the polish...

    Thanks for the help!

How long did you wait before removing it?

      I tried two ways.

First, removing right after...ans then tried after waiting a little...result was the same.

The Ultimate polish should be removed while it's still wet, I bet the warm surface caused it to dry to the paint.
Were you working out in the sun? Also how bug of an area were you working on? You should only work on a small area at a time, 2'x2' or less.

I was doing it inside my garage, no sunlight, however, the engine of the car was reponsible for th surface being warm.

          Thanks,

            Hi PHL,

It really comes down to working a small area and removing the product while it's still wet. Did you tried this way ?

                Re: Question about Ultimate Polish

Yes, I tried in a small area. My first try was in an area even smaller than the recommended 2x2. Maybe it was a combination of spending too much time applying and the warm surface.

                I will try again today.

Question: I am applying w/ the black buffing pad, I believe that is the pad for polish and waxing. Right after I plan on applying the wax using the same pad. Is there a procedure I should follow to clean it? Is it mandatory that I have a separate pad just for waxing?
I did buy the yellow pad, but I believe that one is for using w/ the compound..

                Thanks!!

You do not want to mix products on the same pad. If you don't have another black pad, you can apply the wax by hand.

I am applying the polish by hand... Looks like its working

I have washed the pad and plan to apply the wax w/ it.

Will buy extra pads this week!

Wow... My back is killing me, guys.. Lol

And i didnt even get to the wax part yet..
I am doing it by the book though... Using tape to avoid getting the product in the rubber parts...etc..

                          Re: Question about Ultimate Polish

I would guess that if the ultimate polish worked great by hand, that you may have been working the product too much with the machine.

I have had good results using UP with the yellow polishing pad and also with the black finishing pad. With the yellow pad I ran the DA at about speed 4-5 and worked the UP in with decent pressure on the DA at first then eased up to light pressure to finish. With the black pad I ran the DA at speed 3-4 and used heavy pressure to start then light pressure to finish.
Both ways worked well on different paint surfaces...
