  • Detail Question

Hello all. Couple quick questions. 1) Buying a G110 V2 with 2.0 Yellow and black 7" pads. Those pads are compatible with the buffing machine correct? No extra accessories needed?

    2) Anyone with experience on BMW vehicles? Minor swirl marks I'm going to remove with UC followed by UP and wax. Model 328I 2011. Bought with 1400 mi. Washed by kids at dealer with dirty towels I would guess. Any suggestions/tips?

    Thanks

    Re: Detail Question

i always recommend griots grage 6" DA and use 5.5" pads. 5.5" pads are easier the control and give a better cut, less heat, won't bog down, and everything else. Its the ideal size for a DA.

in my experience you can use megs UC and follow it up with wax on light color cars. on dark color cars you need to follow up with a polish and a polishing pad. i like m205 and lake country white pad or hydro finish pad. you can use megs ultimate polish as well then use wax. i like to use polish and do an IPA wipe down before applying wax.

      Re: Detail Question

      In answer to your questions.

      1. All compatible, nothing extra needed.

      2. It will depend on the particular marks your paint has. Some swirl marks are worse than others. Some paints are harder or softer than others, and therefore harder/easier to correct. I would do a small test spot first (say 12"x 12"). Try UP first (always try least abrasive first). Work it in to the paint well then wipe off. Inspect your test panel. If it's all clear or a lot better either move to wax or use a second UP application. If it's not a whole lot better or no better at all then UC should do the trick.

Just remember the test spot before you begin. Really helps you dial in a compound/polish/wax combo for the remainder of the car.

      Good luck!

        Re: Detail Question

I polished out an X3 and 3 series sedan with M83 on a soft buff pad. Got good results. I expect the new microfiber DA would be even better.

          Re: Detail Question

The G110v2 ships with the W68DA backing plate, which is the plate recommended for use with our Soft Buff 2.0 pads.

BMW paints are all over the map with regard to hardness, or workability. We've seen some that are very easy to correct and others that are very resistant to defect removal. You'll have to experiment a bit on yours to determine where it falls.

We use our Soft Buff 2.0 pads and UC exclusively in our Saturday Classes and we've gotten outstanding results on a huge variety of vehicles. We never know what we'll have available to us so we just select a vehicle with a lot of defects and have at it. If you use the tool properly (ie, your technique is sound) then you can remove all kinds of problems from all sorts of paint with it and our Soft Buff 2.0 pads. Just look through the threads from pictures from our Saturday Classes and you'll see what we've worked on, and the results we've gotten.

            Re: Detail Question

I have a 5 series 2011, and also had minor scratches. I was able to remove most of them by hand with the UP alone.
