  • Removing Swirls

Long time lurker, first time poster.
My wife has a 2010 Red Ford Escape and I have a 2009 Black Ford Ranger. We had both cars washed and detailed at a local shop last year that was a big mistake. The vehicles looked great right after they were done, but swirl marks appeared several days later. A few weeks later I washed and waxed the cars again by hand, but the swirls are still visible.
I am going to try the steps below using a Makita 9227CX3 to remove the swirls. Please let me know what you think.. I’m open to suggestions.
    1. Wash the vehicle with Deep Crystal Car Wash and Wash Mitt
    2. Dry the vehicle using Water Magnet Microfiber Drying Towel
    3. Use the W8006 pad and Meguiar's #9 Swirl Remover
    4. Once step 3 is completed, use W9006 and Meguiar's #7 Show Car Glaze
    5. After steps 3 and 4, proceed with using Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 to as a final steps to finish the car.

One step that should always be included is a Claying step, you do not want to catch anything and really screw up the paint finish.

Good catch. Do you clay the entire car or certain areas?

Entire car would be best. If you insist then atleast do all horizontal panels, hood, roof etc. Your best bet is doing the entire vehicle.

How skilled are you with the rotary polisher you plan on using?

Have you used a rotary buffer on a car before?

Do one small section and check your results with a light. Don't add more swirls then you have now.
                My 2 cents

Yeah, using a rotary for a few swirls without being good at using it generally doesnt end well.

I will a small section with the rotary. If all is well, I will contine using it. If not I will do by hand.

If I do this by hand, should I still use the same products?

Yes I would, but dont expect to get it done in a day, maybe not even for a few days.

Working by hand, I dont think #9 will do much. Will have to get up to Ultimate Compound most likely.

                          Re: Removing Swirls

M09 is a great product, but is only capable of removing the most minor swirls. Do a test spot and see how it works on your swirls. It's a great follow-up to M02 Fine-cut cleaner and both are rotary-friendly, so you may need to do M02 first, followed by M09. If you have any competence with a rotary, don't be afraid of either one.
M07 is another great product, but it is for hand application only. You will likely find M09 to finish LSP-ready, which minimizes the need for M07.

#82 is a very mild cleaner polish that is best suited for very minor swirls or increasing gloss.
