Of micro marring? I would like to make sure i'm not doing that to any of my cars. After i Swirlx the hood of my mitsubishi, i dont have swirls but seems like tiny specks in places that doesnt give a 'flawless look' so to speak.

Re: Anyone have any pictures?
I have a hard enough time just photographing swirls, let alone micro-marring.
What I see as micro-marring is a "greyness" to the clear coat. It should be invisible and appear black.
Please note this is my experience with a black car. Haven't done any reds or dark blues and I'm guessing it is difficult to impossible to see micro-marring on silver, white or other light color.
Perhaps a more learned and wise member will have something for us to look at.

Re: Anyone have any pictures?
Micromarring often manifests itself as tiny little "tick marks" that tend to be most noticeable in darker paints, non metallic being the worst culprit (what else is new, huh?). These can look sort of like very short semi circular or curved marks in the paint when viewed close up. From a distance they kind of all run together and give the "greyness" David mentioned. The action of a DA polisher can introduce this type of mark in paint that is susceptible to it, and the more aggressive the pad used the more aggressive the tick marks can be.
What you're describing in your paint sounds a bit different though. Shiny, glossy specs? That doesn't sound like micro marring as it's generally thought of.
Any chance you can capture some pictures of what you're experiencing so we can try to evaluate your finish? What year is the vehicle, and how many miles on it?Michael Stoops

Re: Anyone have any pictures?
I will try to get a decent pic later today. I can only see it if the sun in directly on it and its a bit cloudy today. Its an 08 Mitsubishi Eclipse and i'm the only owner., I used an Orange LC pad with Swrilx. Based on the link Murr supplied it kinda makes me think maybe the description of the paint is that its "scoured". When i get a chance i will see if the white LC pad with swirlx is better. Dont know how delicate the paint is but there are places on the car that swrilx only removed about 50-70% if swirls.Am i obsessed?? A car is the second biggest financial investment for most people, why not keep it looking better than new?

Just to keep the discussion flowing...
You say scoured, was the car ever subjected to blowing sand/dirt? Strong winds or a storm of some sort?
Difficult to tell from the photo, but what about water damage? Has the car set for a period of time with water standing on it? Are you near an industrial area? Or construction?
Is the damage uniform all over the car? Roof, hood and trunk more than the sides?
Do you notice anything on the glass or trim or is it limited to the painted surfaces? You've clayed the car?

Re: Anyone have any pictures?
Yes I have clayed the car. I only notice it on the hood. I dont see it anywhere else on the car. I live in Oklahoma so its seen windy thundertorms and tornado like weather. It gets washed weekly besides in the winter. Water doesnt stand on it, I NXT it too much lol.Am i obsessed?? Re: Anyone have any pictures?
Only on the hood....suggests to me at least water dried on the hood from the heat of the engine.
I don't often recommend venturing off the Meguiar's site, but this discussion contained some good photos. Anything look familiar?

Re: Anyone have any pictures?
It looks a lot like this picture but not as visible. But this picture is just one when he sprays quick detailer on the hood. So it doesnt look like water spots more like maybe dried on QD?? If so, whats the best way to remove dried QD?

Re: Anyone have any pictures?
I was hoping by now Murr or someone with a bit more experience would jump into this conversation, but here's what I would try.
There's a saying around here that "like takes off like", but I think that more applies to compounds, waxes and polishes more than detailer. However, you may wish to give that a try. Although you've kind of done that with when you clayed. I'd drench an area, put a microfiber soaked in detailer on top of that area, let it set a bit and see if you can wipe off your spots. Keeping in mind not to swirl up your finish with too much pressure. Do a small area, if it works move on to more area. Doesn't work, you may have some isopropyl alcohol round the house. Dilute that 50/50 with water and try that solution. Keeping in mind too much pressure may swirl up your finish and the alcohol will remove any wax you may have on the hood.
Unless someone recommends something else, I recently had a truck very water spotted on the roof and after claying I went after it with ColorX. It was the least aggressive product I had sitting around and ColorX does a nice job cleaning. So it worked. You said you used SwirlX and it's more aggressive than ColorX, so I'm not sure ColorX would do any good in your case.
