DA microfiber and clear coat failure

I will be detailing a neighbor's 5-year old Mini-Cooper. There are two quarter-size spots of clear coat failure. Should I avoid buffing over these with the DA microfiber pads? My neighbor is aware of the problem and I have advised her that the only cure is repainting.

Yeah... just do a little gnetly by hand, like a mild polish and wax.
