  • Black spots on paint caused by bumper film

About 2 years ago i decided to put a protective film on the front of my Scion XD. After noticing, how beat it was looking, I proceeded to remove it and was able to get it all off, including all the sticky residue.

Problem is it left a lot of black spots and marks on my car's paint. I've tried different things, but nothing has worked so far. Tried a clay bar and Meguiars ultimate compound, with no success. What do you guys recommend, and will I need a professional polisher to complete the job?

    Many thanks.

could it be mold? If so, what's best to remove it?

Honestly, have never seen anything like that.

The only close could be when I saw the new wrapping removed from vehicles, they had a shadow left behind. Maybe moisture or something, and the shadow soon went away.

You could certainly try a Bug and Tar remover, or a quick wipe of a glass cleaner, Goo Gone, etc.

Used goo gone to remove the sticky mess, but it won't remove this...

Thing is you put your finger over it and it feels smooth, like there's nothing there...

have you tried 205? or Scratch X? I would try a test spot and if you dont get results kick it up to 105 or Ultimate Compound.

Also was that a 3m clear bra?

I have tried ultimate compound with no results. Just ordered 105.

It was a clear bra, but I don't remember what brand/kind.

Also, to apply 105, can it be done by hand... or will I get better results with a polisher?

              Thanks for the tips.

Yes, it can be used by hand.

I'd try a bug and tar product, or glass cleaner maybe.. If it is more of a stain in the pores, not sure if #105 would get to it either.

tried glass cleaner, with no results.

Here in AZ it gets VERy hot, I wonder if it's got to do something with that?

If some part of the glue got into the paint maybe... I dunno...

Where did you buy the film? If you have the original receipt for it, you could contact the manufacturer (3M or whoever) & ask for advice from someone who knows what's what. I've never seen anything like that either.
