  • Wax cure time.

Does the wax need to stay on the car for at least twelve hours, or just a twelve hour period of pause after it is removed from the paint before the second coat is added?

    Re: Wax cure time.

The 'curing' time would be apply, let dry, remove, then let sit and cure. Then apply second coat, let dry, and remove.

12 hours is for best looks. 15 minutes or so at least is good.

      Thank you for clarifying!

        Re: Wax cure time.

A synthetic wax is a polymer and therefore requires time to cross-link (12 hours) forming a molecular bond to the paint surface (hence its durability)

An organic wax does not cross-link and therefore only requires time to form a 'hard' shell, usually an hour, but check with mfg

Would you please elaborate on molecular bonding and its chemical process!

          Thanks

In general, strong chemical bonding is associated with the sharing or transfer of electrons between the participating atoms. Molecules, crystals, and diatomic gases—indeed most of the physical environment around us—are held together by chemical bonds, which dictate the structure of matter.

Cross-linking - is a covalent bond (I use the word ‘molecular’ to describe the linking of molecules to form a bond; hence molecular bond) linking one polymer chain to another. Cross linking tends to increase Tg and increase strength and toughness, cross-linking consists of the formation of chemical bonds between chains. Cross-linking has the effect of changing a plastic from thermoplastic to thermosetting. Thus, it also increases strength, heat and electrical resistance, and especially resistance to detergents, solvents and other chemicals.

Is ColorX synthetic? I usually do the whole car with ColorX and then a top coat with #16. Would I see much of a difference on a black car by waiting 12 hours?
              Thanks.

The cross-linking of a polymer only affects the products bonding and its durability not its athetics

                Isn't ColorX an abrasive polish?

I understand it is a one step polish & wax.
                  Thanks for the reply.
