Another ColorX question

Can I follow the ColorX treatment with a polish to bring out the color, or will that be counterproductive?

Hi Lee,

Meguiar's recommends applying your choice of polish first and then wax, (The 5-Step Paint Care Cycle). I know some people like to use the ColorX/NXT Tech Wax combination where they are basically using the ColorX as a paint cleaner and then building on the results the ColorX produces by applying NXT Tech Wax over it.

In a situation like this you could apply a pure polish after the ColorX to increase depth, gloss and richness, however you should consider applying a second coat of wax over this step to lock in the results.

Also, be sure to apply a thin coat of the polish and work it in well, then remove with your softest polishing cloths.

What are you working on? is it a single-stage finish or a clear coat finish.

Thanks for the response. I am working on a Black 2000 Mustang, so it is not a single stage application. Would something like Show Car Glaze work?

Sure, but be sure to apply a thin coat and then use your softest 100% cotton terry cloth towels or your softest, plushest microfiber polishing cloth to remove. Also, don't rush the removal process, take a little bit off at a time, don't try to take huge patches off all at once. Remove a little and then move on to new territory, go around the car twice to get it off instead of trying to take it off all at once.

If you don't already own #7 Show Car Glaze, you might consider trying Gold Class Wax, it will leave a deep, dark reflective surface like the #7 Show Car Glaze but will also leave behind wax protection at the same time and you may find it easier to work with.

If you do want to apply a pure polish and you don't already own #7 Show Car Glaze, you might consider Deep Crystal Polish, it will be a little easier to remove than the #7 Show Car Glaze which can sometimes be a tad more difficult to remove off of some clear coats depending on how thick you apply it, you polishing cloths and your skill level.

Thanks again Mike. I have the Deep Crystal and was planning to use NXT for the first time. I hope with the combo of ColorX, polish and NXT, the black will just explode . With any luck, I will do this on the weekend and post some pics and a write-up.
