  • Checking in for some guidance

So i'm using an orange pad on my silver 06 car. I thought my swirls were very mild but it takes about 4-5 applications of swrilx to see decent results. Still not perfect but better. So I took it to the next step and used UC. Was that the right thing to do?

I ran out of daylight so i couldnt see how well two passes of UC did. I have no covered parking to do this and its only been 55-60 degrees where i live. Any ideas on how to see swirls besides buying halogen lights?

Also, with using UC, how many times a year can i actually use it or swirlx on my car before going through the clearcoat?(Im the only owner and this is the first time any paint corrections have been done)
    Thanks in advance
Am i obsessed?? A car is the second biggest financial investment for most people, why not keep it looking better than new?

Sounds reasonable to me. Though you will want to get out in the sun to see.

Best to do a test panel and check, not the whole car and check.

As far as how much... Hard to be exact, but quite a bit. Ideally, you wont even go back to UC again.

Ideally yes, but its my daily driver and the only time its covered is when i'm at work in a parking garage. However, I think my swirls came from bad washing technique for the first 4 years. No two bucket system, didnt dry with microfiber towels

UC once every 4 years (or whatever is out then) and some SwirlX a few times a year in between would work out quite well.

          Sounds like a plan. Thanx!

It sounds like you did exactly the right thing - moving up to a more aggressive liquid when a less aggressive one wasn't getting the job done after several applications. SwirlX is quite mild, so depending on how hard the paint is and how severe the defects, it's not a big surprise that you needed to step up.

Now this: and whenever we hear this question we always follow it with a question of our own -

And our question is "How are you washing and maintaining the vehicle in the first place?" Reason being, the vast majority of swirls come from the washing/drying/maintenance steps, so if you're doing those with less than great technique you need to change how you do things. It's best to not put swirls in the paint in the first place, or at least dramatically minimize doing so.

Of course, before we could ask you that question, you basically answered it for us, and for yourself.

So, if you improve your wash technique then you likely won't have to put buffer to paint for quite some time. Of course, the sensitivity of the paint plays a huge role in this too, and some paints are like trained dogs - just say "scratch" and they are!

Thanks a lot Mike. Also one more question, does NXT actually fill in mild swirl marks? I ask because a few swirl marks did not come out and I was afraid to do more than 3 passes with the UC so i left them but after i used the cleaner wax and NXT, i didnt see some of them anymore.
