  • Protect new paint from salty/oily roads

    Hi there.

    Greetings from Norway

I have just bought a new car. Mitsubishi ASX Intense+ and its white of color.

Im going to have a few days now riding over mountains and some places the roads in Norway are soaked in salt, asphalt and lots of other greasy things sticking hard on the white paint.

My car will look like hell after a week in these conditions and there is no way i can get a proper car wash while im on the road.

So my question is if you guys have any suggestion about what to do...can i like put on a deasant layer of wax and not take it/polish it of?
I hope there is something i can put on so that all that greasy stuff dont get a hang on the paint and its easily going of when i get back home.
Im leaving tomorrow and remember that in Norway we probably have 50% of all Meg products available compared to like USA and so on.

Sorry for my english but i guess you understand were im going

The best you can do is put a nice sealant on there and be careful washing it after. The sealant will help when washing as it will prevent the dirt and salt from sticking to the paint for a temporary period of time.

That' really the best you can do. Applying the sealant and then not buffing it off is not going to help at all.

If you apply a wax, you will want to let it set up for 30 minutes or so then remove it. You wont want to try and remove the wax residue with all the road gunk in it.

The best wax you would probably find now is Nxt 2.0 Tech Wax. 2 thin coats would be even better if you had time.

Then just wash it when you get back.

If you go by a coin-op place on your travels, you could spray it off with the water (dont use the soap), and do the spot free rinse. Driving would dry it off the rest of the way.

Thx for tips guys. I have the Nxt wax 2.0 but the problem is that we have minus 1 Celsius outside, so i guess the wax never will dry out even after 30 minutes

Yeah, that wont work too well, but you can always try a small spot..... Would almost certainly smear, but looks arent the priority. As long as it spread and removed.

          And no garage to borrow?

Re: Protect new paint from salty/oily roads

I have no garrage to borrow wich is warm so no.....
Deff look is not priority at all. Im giving it a shot with the wax and what is not coming of is not coming of.
I know that i may say "bad words in church" right now, but if a use a....dont know what the name is in english, but i think i will call it a de-greaser of some sort.... We need to use it now and then in our weather conditions to get all the greasy stuff of and it really works. The paint does not like it at all, but sometimes its the only option.

But then again if i use a de-greaser, wouldn't that take care of the too much wax issue? The de-greaser wont take it all so i finally at some point need to work with my hands on it and its a terrible job on a white car to get it spotless after a trip like that.

Anyway i guess that if its way too much wax it wont hurt the paint am i right? In my opinion its better with a car with too much smeared wax on since the dirt then hopefully will lie on top of the wax

Well, a degreaser certainly would remove wax.

Do you have a link/name for the de-greasing product?

No, you wont have 'too much' wax. Just try to apply it thin, then let it sit a while, then try and remove.

There is no info about this degreaser. This is a Norwegian produckt and they are afraid to reveal the formula. Its quite expensive but it kicks *** and it contains no acid of any kind.

Its called Prickbort. Directly translatet to english its called dotaway

If you use a degreaser be sure to put wax down right away.

Re: Protect new paint from salty/oily roads

The degreaser would remove the wax on the paint, not just the dirt. So he is saying that if you use the degreaser, plan on doing some waxing after.

How did the waxing go in the cold?

Same here in Toronto, too cold to wax. I use UQW in this weather.
