How about a picture in the sun showing the defects?
The picture you posted does make the truck look clean though.
Are you looking for a 95% swirl free finish or to just make the paint clean, shiny and semi corrected?
Safe to assume its a daily driver?
I will get pics of the swirls when I get all of the mud and salt off of it from my hunting trip last week. I would like to go for the 95% its an 03 with 68k on it. It was my dads. He past away so I got it. I only drive it on the weekends but I want it to look good when I do.
You'll treat any color the same when it comes to swirl removal.
Certainly will be a panel or two a day project if working by hand, but just a matter of getting a bottle of Ultimate Compound and some applicators and working it into the panel.
I have only washed vechicles in the past I have never even waxed one. Would I be better to have a local do the best they can the first time then I take care of it from there. Or do I jump in and try it all myself? All of this is all new to me. Thanks for any help you can give.
If all you want to do is Wash, Clay, and Wax, then all you need is a soap, clay kit, and wax.
Personally, I would do this:
1. Wash - Gold Class Soap, and good towels, 2 buckets, good sponge/mitt, etc.
2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit, maybe an extra QD bottle or two, since you have a big vehicle.
3. ColorX
4. Wax - Nxt 2.0
Now that will clean and shine it, not do much with the swirls.
For the wheels, tires, & wheelwells I like All Purpose Cleaner and cheaper OTC soap such as Deep Crystal Car Wash.
Be sure to have some wheel and tire brushes on hand as well as a smaller one for reaching into and scrubbing the wells. A bug sponge works well for this as well.
For washing the body I would use Gold Class Shampoo, good quality wash mitts, and good quality drying towels.
Use good clean buckets as well, I like the orange ones from Home Depot. White ones are nice too.
I know you mentioned how you liked the Gilmour foam gun. You can purchase that off ADS as well.
Plenty of quality micofiber towels for the removal of clay lube residue, wax & sealant, etc.
I would pick up an AIO cleaner wax such A12 Cleaner Wax, ColorX, or M66 Quick Detailer. Since your working by hand, go with the ColorX. It can be had locally.
You may want to add additonal protection, I like M21 Synthetic Sealant and M20 Polymer Sealant within the Meguiars lineup.
For maintaining the paint you could use a wash such as Ultimate Wash and Wax, and follow up applications of Ultimate Quik Wax, Ultimate Quick Detailer, etc make things nice and easy.
There are other little things here and there such as tire/wheelwell dressing, trim dressing, glass cleaner, metal polish, etc.
Please be sure to ask away as I and others have given you quite a bit of info.
