  • Dusting with Ultimate Compound

    Hi guys

I used ultimate compound with my Random Orbital and a heavy polishing pad. I gave the pad a light spray with some detailer and put a few dabs on the pad. Spread it around on low speed, then on a higher setting. After a few strokes on say half a boot lit, alot of dusting of the product occured. Am i doing something wrong ?

Also, i am using it with a heavy polish pad instead of a cutting pad, as i assume the Ultimate compound itself will do the cutting ? THanks.

UC will naturally 'dust'. Perfectly normal.

What pad exactly are you using?

UC will dust as that is its nature. How much dust are you getting though? Is it a a few dust particles? Is it dusting as you move over the section? Any more details would help.

What kind of orbital and what kind of pad? Manufactuerer, color of the pad, etc.?

Thanks for the replies. I was using a Ryobi Ero 750 RO, and both a Hex Logic Green polishing pad and a Lake Country White pad. I heard of good results by hand with Ultimate compound and didnt want to use a heavy pad with the UC as it seems to do alot of work on its own.

Also do i need to wet the pad down first ?

Yeah you should always look to prime the pad - either use something like #34 Final Inspection (or Quick Detailer), or even use the product you are using - work it evenly into the pad surface with your fingers - you will find this way, you won't need to re-apply as much product to the pad between passes!
