It looks like you have an Audi in your avatar.......which are notorious for hard paint.

In order to remove swirls, you have to remove a little bit of paint and the harder the paint the harder this process is. Using a dual action polisher will make the job much easier and provide better results.

What are you using to apply UC?

Work very small sections. No bigger than 8" X 8" to effectively remove the swirls. You are going to need to put a good amount of pressure behind the applicator btu don't use your finger tips. Use the length of your fingers.

You may want to look into some terry cloth applicators also. They will increase the total cut of the product and pad and give better results. The terry cloth may haze the paint though so you would want to follow up with the foam applicator and UC working in the same manner. You can even follow that second step with a foam applicator and a lighter polish like Swirlx if you want to add even more gloss to the paint.

Removing swirls by hand is time consuming and challenging. It takes a long time especially when working on difficult paint. You should be looking into no more than one panel a day to ensure best results. Otherwise, fatigue becomes an issue.

Depending on the hardness of the paint, removing swirls by hand can be very difficult, if not impossible. You could try some M105, if that is available; but you may discover that not even M105 will effect the level of paint correction that you desire. If M105 doesn't work for you, then you will just have to live with the swirls. Teach yourself not to examine your car too closely.

What product have you applied? If that's wax it looks kind of heavy

It's hard to tell the scale of your photo, but when working by hand your test spot should be small and focused on say a one foot by one foot area.

Your product should look uniform within that area. Not thick in some areas and thin in others. Work it as if your hand were a buffer.

Take a look at this video. Although only a short bit of this video shows actually working the product, it is an excellent example.

It looks like you really over applied it. I would remove it and try working a very small section with a very small amount. I would put a piece of painters tape down so you can use it for a side by side comparison to see if you are getting any results.

                            Dear Pro01,

1st of all, can you feel the scratch with your nail? if yes, it is sad to say that you cant remove it but do some touch up or repaint.

In my experience, removing swirl, water spot, and mild scratch using hand, need a lot, lot, lot, and lot of efforts . It is not impossible, but it needs time, pation, and power. Like every body say, apply it only in small area, 20 x 20 cm2 will be great. Don't apply directly on one panel like your pic show to use. it is useless. I would like to suggest you, to clay first before do some cleaning.

A UC will be a good choice rather than swirlx or scratchx (using hand), apply medium pressure. Over pressure it only drive you into new problems ("tiger something" effect on paint). 2 or 3 application will be better than 1 with extra pressure. Don't let the product to dry, buff it as soon as you finished applying it. A thin layer of product will good for you.

You may watch the video on this forum, it will give you a lot of clue about how to do it right.

                            happy detailing
