  • 6 inch polisher

I got a "turtle wax 6 inch orbital polisher" as a gift. I know it nothing like the PC I hear about in this forum. I have not used one before. Although it has a wax applicator bonnet, a foam, a terry cloth and a wool bonnet, I am planning to apply the NXT wax by hand. Should I use the terry cloth bonnet to remove the wax then use the wool?

Any advantage in using the orbital to apply the NXT wax?

Keep in mind that these just make handwork easier. They don't have the power "work" the product like a G-100 or rotary polisher so you won't get very far if you need to remove defects like swirls. If the finish is good to begin with it can make maintenance easier than just working by hand.

I haven't used one of these myself but just on general principles I think I'd toss the wool bonnet. Then I'd immediately get some microfiber bonnets.

Is the applicator bonnet plastic lined? Is it foam or cloth? Is the backing pad porous? Would it absorb product and ooze it out later? If so don't use it wet unless you do have some kind of liner to prevent carryover.

In general you want to apply products with the applicator pad or the foam pad. You can remove products with terry or microfiber bonnets but I usually find removing them by hand with towels to be easier. If you do use bonnets for removal you'll need a bunch of them because they load up quickly.

With NXT or any other wax the advantages over hand application can be improved consistency and reduced product usage.

If I had one of these I'd probably use foam bonnets (with liners) to apply products and hand towels to remove them. Then maybe a final dry buff with microfiber bonnets.

    PC.
