  • Would you help me figure out how to fix this paint problem?

    Hello Everyone,
I have some problems figuring out what kind of products to use to restore of the problematic paint areas of my car.

    Problem 1:
This is on my bumper. There's some kind of dripping stain. I tried to use Optimum No Rinse wash, but the dirt/grime won't come off.

    Closer pic:

    Problem 2:
The paint on my bumper seems to be hazy/cloudy/ or oxidized.

    Problem 3:
The paint on my hood seems to be hazy, cloudy, dull or fading. It is similiar to problem 2, except the dullness is less uniform. I'm afraid this is Clear Coat Failure. If it is, is there any way to prevent it from getting worse?

    Thank you very much!

I would want to look at:

    1. Wash
    2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay Kit
    3. Clean - SwirlX -

Area 1 - A paint cleaner should help there. SwirlX is not the strongest cleaner, but dont want to jump strong right away.

Area 2 - SwirlX should help.

Area 3 - Yeah.... has a look of clear coat failure. You can still SwirlX this, but be more gentle, not working it in hard as you would to remove a defect. A pure polish like Deep Crystal Polish may also help slow down more damage.

    4. Wax - 2 coats of wax will be good, something like Nxt 2.0.

Sounds good! I'm going to start over from scratch because the paint already has a layer of polish and wax. I'll try to use Dawn detergent to clean off the wax, then follow up with a clay bar and finally use SwirlX. Does this sound okay?

Considering how far gone the paint is already, I would avoid dawn. Clay will do just fine to remove the wax.

I would want to use Gold Class... As Chris says, dont want to add to the drying out now.

I am curious. Is there a reason why you would recommend Swirlx instead of ColorX? I don't have swirls in my paint. It is mostly faded color. The only difference I know is that ColorX is a cleaner and wax whereas SwirlX is a dedicated swirl remover. Both are paint cleaners. I'm overwhelmed

Well, ColorX is certainly an option, but when you use an all-in-one type product, you tend to lose a bit from each step.

So SwirlX will have more cleaning ability, esp with those water spots.

The Deep Crystal Polish would have more polishing oils.

I like ColorX a lot for regular detailing, ColorX + Nxt makes a great quick combo. But for defect removal, gettign some polishing oils into dried out paint, I think you will do better step by step. And then possibly ColorX + Nxt or Cleaner/Wax + Nxt for a future quick detail.
