  • Meguiar's Cleaner Wax vs. Regular Turtle Wax

I was just wondering if I wanted to layer a carnauba wax and NXT 2.0, which of Meg's cleaner Wax or Turtle Wax would be better? I know Meg's is pretty good, but I hear the plain Turtle Wax is a god option. If not, what would be the best wax for layering?

Cleaner Wax is ... a cleaner wax--which means that it will remove any wax previously applied. I do not know about the cleaning abilities of Turtle Wax; but I suspect that it too, being a consumer-line product, has some cleaning power. Those who make consumer-line waxes know that their customers do not prepare and polish the paint surface like most of the MOL brethren do. The regular use of Cleaner Wax is a good practice. It will clean the paint of contaminants and pollution. You can then top it with your preferred wax. Check out this article: Your Daily Driver: A Simple Wash & Wax Regimen.

Whether a carnauba-type wax is actually layerable--in the sense of actually increasing wax depth--is a debatable subject. Meguiar's recommends two coats of its waxes/sealants for purposes of even and full coverage, much as one will apply a second coat of paint to one's house.

If you want to top Cleaner Wax, you might consider topping it with either Gold Class Carnauba Plus or NXT.

You heard Turtle Wax is a better option. Turtle Wax is a brand, with 3 lines, F21, ICE and Turtle Wax Classic. I quick visit to Turtle Wax shows 2 Paste Polishes, 1 F21 Polish (protectant), a cleaner wax, a paste wax, a liquid wax, and some other color waxes.

I'm assuming you mean this product: http://www.turtlewax.com/main.taf?p=2,1,4,1

What is your goal for layering? Are you trying to get more protection? or are going for a certain look?

Basically, I'm trying to get the carnauba look with synthetic sealant protection. And I just plain like waxing

Based on the positive reviews I have read, may I suggest that you give Gold Class Carnauba Plus a try. You can apply it on top of NXT or any other synthetic sealant.

On my personal car, I liked how NXT 2.0 topped with Meguiar's #26 hi-Tech yellow turned out.

Thanks all! I'll probably pick up some Cleaner wax sometime this weekend. I'll top that off with some NXT and the last of the Gold Class wax I have.
