Someone gave me some ONR to try. I checked and apparently you can wash the car without rinsing it off first.

I am concerned because my understanding is we have to rinse the car well before the wash to remove girts and dirt from the car surface. Otherwise, rubbing/ wiping a MF mitten against the paint surface will cause scratches or swirl marks.

Am I missing anything here? Apparently many people use it in winter when water hose is not available.

Very good product. Not only for winter use. I use it due to local watering restrictions. Depending how dirty your vehicle is, you may not need to pre-rinse. I know I never have.

I just fill the bucket, add soap. Wash a section, then dry it. Works very well.

So, what if you have some small rocks stuck to the car surface? Without rinsing, you may incur swirls to your car.

If you have that kind of dirt, it would be best to do a normal wash or at the very least...hose off the heavy dirt. ONR works great if your car has heavy dust but not driven on rainy muddy streets.

There are a couple of ways for you to proceed if your car is particularly dirty: (1) You can pre-soak the car with ONR at QD dilution and then proceed to wash the car with ONR at regular strength. (2) You can take the car down to the local coin-op and wash the car off with the high pressure sprayer, with or without car wash detergent, and then drive home and proceed to rinse the car with ONR.

ONR is an excellent product. You are wise to ask the questions you are asking, but I assure you that thousands of folks have successfully used ONR and have found that it works. Of course, any time that you touch the paint you risk marring and swirling, but ONR appears to have sufficient lubricity to prevent it from occurring.

I have used ONR for the past two years, especially during the winter months. I consider it an indispensable product. However, I still prefer washing my cars the old fashioned way. There's something about ONR that is counter-intuitive. I know it works but I still find it difficult to believe that it does.

As with everything in life. Some common sense is required. Of course in that situation you would rinse or resort to some other option.

                  Re: Onr

I use ONR all the time. If I just have a light dust, I generally just wash it with ONR, this is typical of just normal driving (no mud, but dust, and if it got caught in the rain).

If I have any significant amount of dirt, then I take it to the local coin-op and rinse it off first. I actually have one that if I go to before work and it's not busy I can hand wash it in the bay. This makes things really quick as I can quickly spray it off, then ONR every panel (instead of just one at a time) then go around and dry it, it is so humid in the car wash that the panels don't dry and allow me to dry it all at once. Give it a shot of UQW while drying and you're good to go.

It's probably safer to run a California Duster over the whole car before ONR.

                          Re: Onr

I don't understand this, if the dust is light enough that a california duster will work, why wash? California dusters only take off the lightest of dust (basically just dust that has settled on the vehicle, as opposed to dirt that has been stuck on the car from daily driving.

If the dirt is bad enough you are wanting to wash (implying the california duster won't be able to remove all the dust on it) then you're probably more worried about the stuck on dirt causing scratches, then the little bit of settled dust.

I say if it is a light covering, go ahead and wash. If there is alot of dirt, pressure wash first, then do the ONR.

I was just thinking that light dust turns to mud in the ONR bucket.

On my daily driver, it's fun to see if I can do the whole car with a duster, spray bottle of ONR, mitt, and only 1/2 gallon bucket of ONR. If I dust, the ONR is good for a second pass on any problem areas and I can avoid getting out the UQDetailer.

I ONR'd a friends BMW in 20 minutes including wheels and a booster of UQWax: Two quality products, a light touch and being careful equals....

I have no clue how you took only 20 minutes, I always end up taking longer than that. Wash one panel, then UQW and dry it, repeat on next panel. It takes a while for me, especially on a bigger car like my 300.
