    LOL. That guys crazy!

If done right you will get very little water, if any, on or in the interior from spraying the jambs out with a pressure washer. Any little water that may land on the door panels or interior is far less that what would get on them when you open the door during a rain storm. Simply have a towel handy and wipe of any water that may land on them.

I'd also agree with David that in the 20+ years I've been detailing cars I've never seen electrical damage come from spraying out a door jamb.

I'd probably end up soaking the interior if I tried that.

Kevin Brown used Body Solvent before on a nasty Toyota Tundra he did. I use an all Wheel/Tire Cleaner (wheels are painted right?) and spray, soak agitate, rinse. Only when they are really bad though.

Other then that, I echo APC, but I mix most of my stuff 7:1.

Oh yeah, forgot about the Tonado. Equally "unique" as the steamer. Both designed for people with way too much time (and money) on their hands.

Another alternative if you have access to a compressed air supply

Tornador air/liquid cleaning tool- this product is totally unique; its air driven oscillating tip and nozzle creates a venturi (tornado) cleaning action that tackles some of the most challenging jobs. Save time and product costs. Clean dirty car interiors faster and better, for cleaning hard vinyl, plastic, storage pockets, door jambs, nooks, crannies, consoles, dashboards, and other hard to reach areas of automotive interiors.

It uses a unique pressurized air process to spray a mixture of water and soap onto a dirty surface. After wiping area with a towel or brushing area simply turn a lever to air purge and help dry the cleaned surfaces. Requires a minimum air pressure of 5.0 CFM @ 60 to 90 PSI, for optimum performance (max 110 PSI) (approx 130 USD)

To clean any surface, dilute a cleaner (P21S Total Auto Wash) as necessary; turn the liquid valve straight up and use an overlapping motion as you pass the gun over the surface. If necessary, allow the cleaning liquid to dwell for 10-15 seconds. Use a microfiber towel to absorb excess liquid. Then turn the liquid valve off and use the compressed air to dry the cleaned area.

Makes interior cleaning more efficient and easier but the expense of the tool and the air supply just may make it a little too expensive for hobby detailers.

Although I don't use one, I'm surprised someone hasn't preached about using a steamer? Seems as if there's always 1 or 2 advocates floating around on the on-line crowd. For me, APC, blast, hand wash, rinse. Out of the 10's of thousands of cars I've done, never seen one get damaged via the door wiring and/or dash wiring.

I'll kick in another vote for the garden sprayer. A low preassure trickle from a hose works too. Blasting jams with a pressure washer makes me nervous. Same with the engine compartment.

I'm another convert from Simple Green to APC also.

Lastly.....especially if hose/water/pressure washed...I'd lube the hinges with some silicone spray!

Unless you are doing a 'full detail' this may be OTT

    Door Jambs

    1. Use P21S® Total Auto Wash, dilute the cleaner as necessary, allow to rest in place and then, using a damp micro fibre towel go over the door jamb to remove excess grease etc.
Alternative- put the P21S solution in a spray bottle, spray jambs and allow to dwell
    2. Take a Swissvax Detail Brush and ensure that you have got into the corners, just lightly brush over it a couple of times.
    3. For difficult to reach areas use the Mini E-Z Detail brush with a flexible shaft
    4. Rinse it off using a wet microfiber towel, and dry thoroughly
    5. Use a Carnauba wax or a spray (WOWA) polymer sealant Zanio Z-8 for protection
    6. Repeat this process on the other side and carry on detailing the rest of your car
    7. Check the hinge / latch lubrication, renew with silicone grease as necessary
    8. Remove dust / dirt from the rubber sleeves and apply Iz einszett Vinyl-Rubber Care'
    9. While you are doing this part of the job, also clean the area around the boot lid, hood and inside the fuel filler flap and access area.
    10. Clean the water channels in the trunk as well as under the hood.

Don’t forget the door sills / kick plates; once clean and dry, they should be protected by applying a surface dressing to vinyl surfaces and either wax or sealant protection to painted surfaces.

I use a pressure washer as well. I do not flood the jambs but I will spray over them fast enough to remove a majority of the dirt. Anything that gets left after that I'll spray down with cleaner and sometimes blow it out w/ an air hose or clean it out with a brush. Once it's dry, I go over it with QD.

APC and a pressure washer! Don't even need to scrub, IME.

My brothers Wife's mazda 3 is white and the door jambs are black from all the rust proofing and and i started cleaning the drivers side so far but it is a pain since it's black with oil and dirt that has sticked to it over the last couple of years.

I rust prrof my car every year but i always wash my door jambs when washing my car...every time my brother has washed her car he never does.

If they are dirty enough, then I carefully pressure wash them.

Otherwise, I just clean them with some APC, cotton towels, and assorted brushes.

I also clean under and behind the weather stripping on the bottom of the door, this is where most of the dirt and grime accumulates.

Trunk jambs are easier to do:

I like using APC+ because it can cut away the dirt and any grease that is in there.
