After washing the car, etc, is it OK to apply Meguiars Ultimate Detailer before I apply NXT or any wax? It seems that if you spray and wipe a little detailer, that the wax goes on and comes off a llot easier. Is this a good idea or am I doing something to impede the application of the wax?

Re: Ultimate detailer b/4 applying NXT Wax?
It would be fine, if a bit pricey of a thing to do.
You could try similar with other detailers, or at least look at Synthetic Spray Detialer in the Pro Line.
Also, you have clayed, other prep work, and just added wax after some washings?2017 Subaru WRX Premium - WR Blue

Re: Ultimate detailer b/4 applying NXT Wax?
For the best possible bonding of the wax to the paint it's best to wash and dry the car thoroughly then evaluate it for any defects.
The presence of above surface bonded contaminants is best determined by simply running your clean, dry hand over the finish. If it feels rough, clay it to remove the bonded contaminants. If you leave this roughness on the finish and then wax it, you'll find it a bit more difficult to apply and remove the wax and the wax won't last as long.
The presence of swirls and other below surface defects is best determined by visual inspection in very strong, direct light. Select an appropriate paint cleaner (after claying, if claying is needed) to remove these defects. Leaving this type of defect will reduce the overall appearance of the finish, even though a wax may effectively hide the finest of the defects.
But in any case, whether you need to clay or not, whether you need to use a paint cleaner or not, it is best to apply your wax or sealant to the paint itself, not a layer of something else you've just introduced. Save the application of UQD for a quick final cleanup after waxing, or before your next wash when you just want to remove some light dust or fingerprints.Michael Stoops

Re: Ultimate detailer b/4 applying NXT Wax?
I'm actually working on two cars; one is my new car, which was bought as a dealer loaner.(9000 miles on it) This car actually needed more prep work than my wife's car, which I bought new 7 years ago and have maintained quite nicely through the years.
To answer your question; yes the car has been pretty much detailed, except for the finish wax.

I would apply wax to the freshly prepped and cleaned surface. If it has been a couple of days since you prepped it. Depending on how bad it looks, a simple wash, or a regular qd product would be fine. No need for the uqd.quality creates its own demand
