  • G110 V2 - newbie looking for help

I'm looking to purchase a G110 V2 from amazon. I'm trying to remove swirl marks from my Honda Civic 2007 Coupe Black. (from the car wash mostly) I had some questions about using a G110 V2.

    1) I have zero experience with anything like the G110 V2, is there a likely chance I could ruin the paint?

    2) I would like to do the following

    Swirl X - Remove scratches
    Polish - Deep Crystal Polish
    Wax - NXT Tech 2.0

Would I use the G110 v2 for all these?
Also which pads do I need and how many?
How many times would I need to go over it?

    3) Does Scratch X 2.0 work with the G110 V2? (If Swirl X doesn't work)

    4) Does anyone have a basic guide to using the G110 V2?

    5) What do I need to buy to get started? (just want to make sure I have everything before I start)

    6) Any tips for someone new at this?

    My Plans:

    Wash Car
    Clay Car
    Swirl X (2 times)
    Polish
    Wax (2 times)

Re: G110 V2 - newbie looking for help

Your products choices look good, substitute SwirlX with Ultimate compound if the swirls dont come out with swirl x.

As for pads.... Lake country for example

Orange polishing pad with swirl x or UC
White or Green finishing pad with DC2
    Black finessing pad with NXt

    Question 6
    heres what i would do

    1) Wash
    2) Clay
    3) Swirlx
    4) DC2
    5) wax

p.s Make sure you have plenty of micro-fiber towels

For your question about if you can ruin the paint ... this video will answer your question

there's 2 parts and a porter cable is basically the same as a g110v2

thanks for the tips. I'll look more into it. I was looking into doing it with the G110 because the results look a lot better than when I do it by hand. Is the startup price around $200 with extra pads?

I think I'm going to order this:

          autodetailingsolutions.net/meguiars-g110-v2-6-pack-kit.html

I was going to get 3 black and 3 yellow. Do I need Burgundy pad? (cutting)

Skip the cutting pad - we don't recommend using it with a D/A as it has a high potential for hazing the paint. It is better suited to rotary use. As for splitting your six pads equally between polishing and finishing, you might want to go 4/2 (polishing/finishing) since the polishing pads take the most abuse (by a long shot). Unless you're using a finishing polish and two different waxes/sealants you should be fine with just a couple of finishing pads.

Re: G110 V2 - newbie looking for help

I am fairly new at this too. I got the v2 DA this past Christmas. I got the same package from ADS. I went with the 4 yellow and 2 black pads and feel this was a good choice.

Since getting the DA, I have done 1 older car and 2 newer cars. For the newer cars, SwirlX was enough. For the older car, I found that I needed Ultimate Compound to get the paint where I wanted it.

I normally use colorx as my cleaner/polish. I was wondering if I'm going to use scratch x separately should I use deep crystal polish or show car gaze polish? (is it safe?)

                If I understand correctly,

Scratch X Yellow Pad speed 5/6 (Buff then wipe immediately)
Polish DCP or SCG speed 4 (Buff / wipe immediately)
NXT Wax speed 4 (Buff / Let dry / Wipe)

You're outline above is pretty much on target, but a bit thin in description. We would recommend the following for your Honda as they quite commonly have fairly soft or delicate paint and can easily be corrected with pretty mild products.

Wash and dry fully first, then evaluate the surface with your bare hand, feeling for any fine bumps or roughness. If this roughness is present you will want to clay first. If the paint feels literally as smooth as glass then claying will do nothing for you. We kind of doubt that claying will NOT be needed, though.

We would recommend SwirlX rather than ScratchX 2.0 for defect correction. SwirlX has a very long buffing cycle and on very delicate paint it does an outstanding job, especially on a D/A. Use this with a W8207 yellow polishing pad, set the tool to speed 5, work just small areas at a time (roughly 2' x 2') and buff until it is just a very thin, translucent film on the surface. Use enough pressure to compress the foam pad a bit, but certainly not enough to stop the rotation. As mentioned, SwirlX will stay wet for quite some time, so take advantage of that. Work that small area in overlapping strokes, moving side to side and then up and down through the area. Continue doing this until you get that very thin film, then stop and wipe it off with a clean microfiber.

Do a single spot like this first, then move the car out into the sunshine so you can properly evaluate your progress. You should see a noticeable improvement after a single application, but if you haven't removed defects to your satisfaction, give it a second go. Now, if you can't seen any progress at all after a couple of applications of SwirlX that would indicate that you need something more aggressive. We kind of doubt it though, but there are so many variables that it's impossible to predict with absolute certainty. Which is why a test spot is so important.

Once you've determined if you need a single application or multiples, move the car back into the shade and continue working the SwirlX section by section. Once that's done you can move onto the pure polish step if you so desire. This should be done either by hand (it is extremely easy to do by hand, by the way) or with a W9207 finishing pad on speed 3 and use only light to moderate pressure. Again, work small areas and wipe off before dry. Use this type of product sparingly.

When you're ready to wax, switch to a fresh W9207 finishing pad and and your NXT Tech Wax 2.0. Now you can cover all the painted surfaces of the car and allow it to dry fully before wiping off. Just make sure to work the product gently over the surface, covering each square inch a few times to ensure uniform coverage. Again, only light to moderate pressure, and use just enough product to lay down a very thin film. You should only need 2 ounces of product for the whole car. Don't over do it here as you'll just be wasting product, it will take longer to dry and it will be more difficult to remove. Thin is key.

That ought to get you started.

Nice walkthrough, Mike! Very informative - and seems clear enough for anyone (especially new folks) to follow.
