  • Fine little hairs? from microfiber

Has anyone else ever noticed (especially on dark cars) what seems to be fine little hairs coming off the microfiber supreme shine towels? Seems I get them (and they are tiny and hard to see) only AFTER I wash the towels. After they've been used a while, they don't seem to leave any.

I do not use anti-static stuff, in fact I air dry them (no dryer sheets). Any thoughts or ideas? What does everyone use to clean their microfiber towels? I've noticed this on various brands - so it doesn't seem to be brand specific.

I noticed this issue w/ the 1st gen supreme shine towels. They left a fiber glass like coating over everything. I replaced them w/ the newer towels (no satin trim) and haven't seen the issue return. If you wash your other microfiber towels w/ ones that have this issue, the others will pick up the linty material and I doubt you will be able to ever get them clean.

You mention that this phenomenon is not brand specific, and that's largely because the manufacturing process can yield some very tiny loose fibers that can be released during use. While only noticeable on very dark, non metallic vehicles, their appearance does seem to be a bit hit and miss even across various brands of towels. How you wash probably won't make much of an impact one way or another.

Our Ultimate Wipes (M9910) use a different microfiber weave than most "traditional" microfiber towels and generally don't exhibit this behavior. Yes, they are more expensive, but for removal of compounds, paint cleaners and polishes they are outstanding. Don't let the short nap of the fibers fool you - these are almost unmatched in their ability to remove these heavy products from the surface. There is a lot more to the quality of a towel than just how deep the nap is.

I have about 80 microfibers and only 1 out of that 80 has ever done that to me and I threw it away immediately.

I too have experienced this phenomenon on my ebony black Sonata...I never really knew what it was until I found this thread today...as a side note, to me, the "clean edge" Supreme MF towels (no satin edge) certainly come out of the dryer differently than the ones with the edge...no comparison in terms of ease of folding them...the no edge towels stick together like velcro...but that's another story all together...the "fiberglass" like fibers is an interesting thing however and now I will look for any MF towels that produce that effect...and I guess they will be relegate them to the wheel / door jamb bin
