  • Ultimate Compound on Glass

I have terrible water spots on my windows.

I read on the forum that M04 was suggested for this purpose, but also saw others such as Ultimate Compound noted in my thread title, M105, and M80. UC was available locally, so I decided to try it.

I cleaned the window with Quik Detailer, taped off a square on my rear driver's door window, and went to town inside the square.

It was successful in removing the water spots, however the area feels completely different from the rest of the glass. When I run my finger along the glass, it feels like there's a slight dip into the area where I cleaned.

Could I have had that much caked on grime on this window, or have I totally screwed up a square on my window?

I will say that the glass looks incredibly good.

    Thanks for your help MOL!

You're being paranoid. Nothing is wrong with your glass. M105 is more aggressive than Ultimate Compound and I've used it to remove waterspots on tons of windows. Ultimate Compound is great because it has such a long work time compared to M105. Enjoy your 'new' glass.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

This is what I was hoping; I was just looking for confirmation. Thanks.

There were no scratches to begin with, so I can't say, sorry.

Before you do the rest of the glass. Try claying it first. Then use the UC. I bet the glass will feel very smooth.

I probably should have included this in the original post, but here are the things I've already tried that lead me to trying something along the lines of Ultimate Compound.

            Washing it normally
            Quik Detailer
Cleaner Wax (the one that comes with the clay)
            White Vinegar
            Toothpaste
            Clay

I did not see where you tried clay. I would do the glass with clay. Then see where your at.

the dip down is you getting the glass to a nice and clean surface ....be careful with glass as it is very hard and can absorb a lot of heat. dont just "go to town" all over it, make sure you keep feeling for heat and you will be fine....as for taking scratches out of glass??? yeah that wont happen lol. glass is much harder than paint.
