I'm looking for products to clean and protect the vinyl top on my 72 chevelle?

You can clean it by washing it just like painted surfaces on your car. To protect it, my personal favorite would be M40. However, if you cannot find that locally, I would suggest using Supreme Shine Protectant or Natural Shine Protectant, depending on how glossy you want it.
I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.
I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
Remove swirls my friends.
